not trashy at all. more mainstream now, with all the commercial men's mags like fhm and maxim using the same type of imagery. ...would have been cool if your gold make up covered your face and hair as well...like a james bond flick.

The answer is obvious:

"Everything is subjective and open to opinion."

sorry but based on philosophy background.   I must disagree to a small point.  A small point yes but It may become much.

I do not believe everything is subjective.

I do believe in a best.

A best photo.
A best model.
A nicest person.
A meanest person.
A smelliest person.

what is my best may not be your best but that does not discount the fact that there must be a best or worst.

It does not all depend.

so thus though trashy and  tasteless may have different and moving definitions.  There is a most trashy and tasteless of all time and of this moment.

My view may be different from the inherent concept of the definition you have but that does not discount the overall inherent feature of  what is basic.  There must be a certain  somewhere.

Someone must be most beautiful,  most idiotic(a crown I strive for),  a biggest eater,  a fatest,  a thinnest,  blah, blah, blah,

Idiot man says bring it on.  Not a flame but wow imagine a debate on a model sight on the basics of philosophy of philosophy.

I truly believe in what I wrote tonight until I wake up tomorrow and decide otherwise.

Titan's "Madonna of Urbino" & Manet's "Olympia" were considered trashy for their times yet we now consider them tasteful works of art.

Standards are constantly changing. Just use your best judgement. If you inadvertantly create controversy, so much the better. Just be sure they spell your name right.

Not speaking of your portfolio Angel, but there are plenty of trashy and tasteless photos without any nudity.

I love the gold picture... I think it's great.

Is it trash?? No. There are always going to be people out there that will complain about anything.

You just keep up the great work... :-)

I like the gold picture that you're worried about. It's provocative and nicely rendered. It almost makes me wish I did photography like that and, if I did, that I had shot it.

Of course you're going to get good comments about it.  It shows more skin than the other photos, it's a sexy pose, and you're a very pretty lady. But just because it shows skin doesn't make it trashy, at least to the people in this arena who would matter to you.

I have some nudity in my work - I don't know that it'd be trashy and tasteless because of that.  I sure hope not, because that's not the intent.  I think your picture's just fine.

Interesting Question.

I have a project that I'm working on that is deliberately "trashy".  I'm making a statement by producing them.  Are they tastless? I hope not, but I leave that for you to decide.  I guess a better question might be to ask "What is Art?"

Gary

Interesting idea and I understand your concept. Its actually artistic in my opinion. Just as other artists have taken subjects/concepts/etc, and transformed them from "trash" so to speak, to "art". Many things you will see in a museum were once upon a time shamefull, until someone had the courage to shoot it in a way that shows the beauty in it...

what is art? I obviously can't answer that but I think part of it is conveying in a photograph or painting (when speaking of humans as the subject) things beyond the physical beauty. Humans are such complex creatures. To those who can capture just one of those elements, and we as the viewer relate as fellow humans....that is one form of art in my opinion.

I viewed a picture here on MM, couldnt go back and find it, but it was a wonderful picture because it said more than just a subject and back ground. It carried feelings, and was able to make me say "hey. I feel like I've experienced that emotion in my life."

bravo to you!

I think you answered the "what is art" question nicely.

I agree with Eric and a few others here that to some it may be trashy, to most people here "no"  we are not main stream in this industry so what we think is trash and what the farmer in Illinois thinks is trash would be different.

What matters is...does it work for you? Who is your potential client?  will they think it's trashy?  If you are doing it just for yourself then you are the expert.

If you put this in your book for a "go-see" for a Walmart print ad you probably won't get the job. If you put this in your book and show it to a local photographer in hopes of a TFP your chances are pretty good of working with the guy smile  just my opinion.

Re: The gold pic, and your port in general
trashy - not particularly
serious - no
interesting/original - no
is it you? - it is only if you superficial and cheesy

if you aren't superficial and cheesy as I suspect you aren't find photographers who'll take a few moments to capture YOU and not try and recreate the latest issue of Maxim

Well, as a model trying to make a buck, while I enjoy originality, my main focus right now is not "art" but "what sells". I thank you for your assumption that I am not cheesy, which I do not believe that I am. However, I am trying to get into Maxim (will be in July) and I am trying to create photos that sell. I personally love to take photos that are fun and creative, and it makes it difficult for me because I am "suppose" to be shooting commercial and beauty (and glamour as I pursue that genre). Anyway, is the picture me? Well, the expression IS! LOL, my thoughts tend to show on my face, almost to a fault, and completely outside of a photoshoot, similiar experessions have been known to stop people in their tracks. Ha ha, but thats another story.

Bottom line, yes, i know its not original, but please keep in mind I am not an artist in this respect, and I am in this as a business. Sounds cheesy, perhaps makes me a sell out, but as a person totally outside of being a model, I assure you I am not cheesy or superficial.

mary...totally understand! I pick and choose what pictures I send to people based on the "purpose". I assure you, this picture is NOT on my comp card, LOL.

Angel,
Your "gold" photo is far from "trashy and tasteless". Many of the model's who have their own.."paid" member's area on their websites have the trashy and tasteless photos. I call them "intenet hookers", lol. Your pictures are very artsy and classy looking. There is a BIG difference. Alot of them call themselves "Playboy models gone bad"...haha...but they were probably bad to begin with. If you are a model who has pictures of yourself butt naked and masturbating, or having sex with another woman...ewww!..or man...or have butt shots with your labia blowing in the wind...then those photos are not only disgusting and degrading to women..but "trashy and tasteless". I could name some names...but they know who they are. Go to babes.net for crying out loud, I think they display all of these models. I asked the webmaster of that site to take me off of there, since I didn't want to be associated with all of those "trashy" internet hookers, haha!

Angel, I had an emotional response to your gold photo. I felt DAMN that's nice! She's hot! I want to shoot her.... So since I had an emotional response to it I think that makes it Porn from what I've been reading.... LOL And OMG I think I can see a part of your nipple showing, how could you degrade yourself that way? Naughty girl. Go to my room immediatly!

I think it's a great shot myself.

hey Angel,
first of all there is no such thing as tasteless or tasteful picture smile some people already talked about it. Taste or tastes change all the time especially in the art world. (check out Jeff Koons, or David Lachapell for examples of kitsch insprired art http://www.davidlachapelle.com/
trashy ...well, this one is a stretchable term also smile
it's very subjective indeed because each picture speaks to different people in different ways. Gold picture is indeed Maxim, Stuff etc type of shot. I would say the two shots with chain/silver lingerie are worse, because they use kitschy lingerie pieces and are more hypocritical in a way, but that's just me smile
gold picture is more along the lines of James Bond style which became a classic so it's ok
