Ok, the topic about territorial photographers reminded me of this.

I've had a model or two tell me they don't want me taking pictures of certain other models.

Hell, one actually got outright angry that one of her friends asked me to take pictures of her. Then later told me that if I took pictures of another of her friends (who she had previously brought along for pictures) that I should make her look ugly.

WTF?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I have learned to never compare models (or women in general) with each other.

I also learned to never assume that because a shoot went well with model Alpha, it will also go well with seemingly-similar model Beta! In another post, I called this the "Otis effect", named in honor of the "Animal House" misadventure involving Otis Day and the Knights. In short, if something goes well and as a result you let your guard down thinking it will go well again, watch out!

I have yet to experience that and hope that I dont. The closest experience that I have had was a girlfriend that got jealous of me photographing other women and not asking her. So I obliged, had a good shoot, got some nice shots. But she refused, then and now, to sign a release form. So I have some nice shots that I can never use. Its not that we had a bad breakup, we even still message occassionally ("Hey, I rememed that you really liked this one TV show, its out on DVD now at such-and-such store, FYI.", etc)

I think it is natural for someone "escorting" for a friend, and after seeing the process, thinking "hey, I want to try that.". Then the original model get unsettled "I brought you along to help, not to compete with me."

Not sure what to tell you to help, except to explain that you will take pictures of what, and who, you want.

The one time I was told by a model NOT to shoot with someone, I didn't listen.

I now wish I had.

I can understand taking the advice of one model that another might be crazy or otherwise have a severe problem. But for just jealosy? I choose who I will work with.

Hey, what if the model giving the advice is the crazy one? Ever see the movie Fatal Attraction? I used to know a lady that was almost that diabolical. Crazy women do exist. Maybe Monsante encountered one of those? (I hope not.)

take care,
Glen

She was just jealous. She thought the shoot might turn out better than hers did and make her look bad. Jealousy and ego- Those feelings are negative for a reason.

Seems like it if that's the case.

I can understand advising against something for valid reasons...but to tell someone that if they take pictures of someone to make them look bad...that's just schizo...

Yep. It happened to me once with one of my best models. I shot the other person anyway. She wanted TFP/TFCD so she sucked it up and dealt with the fact that I shot with the other person.

I've witnessed catfights between models, but don't use those as criteria for picking girls to work with.  Anyone see Heathers?

Also if it's not stated in the model release form or contract you signed with her, she has no say with whom you take photos with.  Just ignore this person.  She has personal issues that are similar to the office politics BS I go through at work.
