Iconix Studio wrote: It's the later. I meant to separate out full service agencies versus independent studios. A studio will not always use an agency for obtaining a model. So to clarify... 1. I have never heard of an agency using a webcam audition for local or remote talent for conditions of employment. 2. I have heard of and have used webcam auditions under controlled situations prior to flying in a "independent" model or transporting a team. Likewise, I have peers who have done the same. Regardless of what people expect to be the norm or not technology is always evolving and there will always be those to take advantage of it. Just a number of years ago prior to mass utilization of the web in the early 90's finding a model via a website or online forum was unheard of. However, you can see how quickly that has caught on and of course with it comes a number of problems as well. But to each his/her own... You have quite an impressive profile with lots of credits. Have you done any work outside of your State or in other countries since Missouri can't really have that many opportunities for commercial photography.

Would you not like to see what she looks like in real-time (webcam) before you committed and bought the plane ticket? with the lack of image quality of webcams, you may as well be better with point and shoot -no flash- snapshots or some scanned polaroids

Iconix took exception to my questions as he sent me an interesting email. I am just a naturally curious person and his profile strikes me as odd. For example: 1. Why doesn't a well published and established studio such as this have any hits on Google? 2. Did Iconix Studios shoot all the pictures in his port? Just questions that a model might have if she would consider shooting with them.

Funny, I got an equally-curious private message filled with platitudes. I told him that his best bet would be to apologize for lying and representing himself as something he appears not to be, and not to email me again failing that.

And then he replied anyway, but I'll never know what he said, as he blocked me - so trying to read the reply gives me the famous, "you're not allowed to contact this user." I can only imagine the colorful nature of his reply.

I'm more curious about the answer to my second question above. Iconix should come back and clarify in the interest of full disclosure.

I checked it out with the highest caution. I contacted her AIM and talked a bit. I looked on the Elite website and her name was not posted. And once this person asked if I was doing webcam auditions that was a red flag there. And I ended the convo as soon as it even started. smart.

My agency (before I was signed with them) asked me to send them a digital video of my runway walk. SO.... videos requests aren't always a redflag.... but webcam... that sounds scamalicious! Especially if it was just some girl telling you about it. If an agency wants a video... they'll ask you themselves.

Amateur porn sites don't buy videos of models walking on the runway.

She is not a newbie, and was directly connected to the bookers she is now dealing with. Not through MM, or IM, or any-M.

Iconix Studio wrote: Some reviews can be done via webcam. So I counter those who responded to the opposite. If travel is involved I have no objection to a photographer reviewing the models I represent via webcam under controlled situations. So not all webcam request are scams. Those that scream "scam" before they understand the situation are typically ill informed and have a preconceived notion of a situation under which they have very little facts. Never heard of any legit photographer asking for webcam interviews. We ask for polariods or unedited digital snapshots, and every model should be willing and able to provide recent ones upon request.

FWIW I have started sending a video thank you after auditions for on-camera spots, gets me in front of them one more time in a mini-production that I control. I do believe it has put me a bit above the rest and I have gotten a couple of pretty well-paying gigs since I have done this.
