Hi. I'm thrilled my profile just got approved. Hoping to meet some models here to work with. I just did a shoot a few days ago and I think my camera is back focusing. Am I being too picky? Should I contact the manufacturer to report the problem?

I might be getting some chromatic aberrations too. I see some green fringing on the arms in the top photo.

back focusing!? Maybe it's trying to bring "focus" back

play around with your aperture if you haven't already...

I'm not sure. Are those things important? I just press the round button. I'll see if I can find that information if it'll help.

I don't see any settings on the camera called aperture.

Thank you! I was anxiously waiting to see if it would get approved. I'm not sure if my skills are up to the high standards required for this site. I hope I can improve to meet the challenge.

If this was legitimate, I would say you should check to see what zone your focus is set on....

If you feel you need some guidance to help speed the process along, I would recommend you get together with a couple of excellent photographers we have here in MM, namely Messrs. Yuen and Randall.

They are both know for dispensing sound advice.

I don't know what zone the camera used. I didn't change anything. I just point the camera at the model and press the little round button.

You need to use the other little round button. The one you are using is for single frame video only.

So tired of you GWC's that won't read the camera manual...
Either that or ramp up your power to shoot at f32.

My camera is not that advanced. It can't do video so I just make mental notes and play it back in my mind.

What is GWC? It's hard joining a new community when everyone throws out these code words. Maybe I should have lurked around a little longer but I need to know if there's something wrong with my camera or is it me.

The camera did not come with a manual and there was nothing about f32.

That works best.  The mind game, playing the moves in your mind...keeping the images indelibly etched in your memory.  Nothing better.

You can always try a lens with about half the focal length. You might have to crop just a weeeee bit but everything should be in focus.

Can I be done playing the straight man now?

here is the test.
mount the camera on a tripod. Use the smallest f stop on the lens and photograph a ruler. The ruler should be set a steep angle away from the camera.
So lets say you focus in camera at 8 inches you look at the enlarged image in photoshop and the image is most sharp at 10 inches or any where else, you have a problem. Professional repairs.

Thanks. I don't know how to put the camera on a tripod. There is no thingee called f stop and I don't shoot rulers. I prefer models. If the camera is not working right, I'd rather get another one. I don't trust them to repair it.

The bottom image looks OK but in the top one, it looks like the leaves are sharper than the model.

Pat will never understand this. He does not even know what depth of field means.

Really? All this time, I thought it was death of field.

You did get the type at the bottom of both images sharply in focus and I am sure they are the front most part of both images.
But it would be good to see full res versions.

I'll look for the box to get the exact model number. Hopefully, it'll help.

Maybe your problem could be solved by pointing the camera away from the model. This way the model will be focused properly!

Back focus? We have that with video cameras, Never heard of it with still. Do you mean the auto focus is focusing on the background not the subject?
