I don't disagree with that in the least.  People do need to understand though that it isn't happening at Playboy Studios.  On the other hand,, Playboy TV has clearly gone hardcore and you are right, they do own a big piece of several of the companies that produce for them.

People she just simply asked two questions.  Answer then and move on.  It's not up to anyone but herself to determine whether she's ready or not.  Plus she did ask anyone if they think she is ready for that.

My thinking is that you should ask the photographer what is expected from you in this shoot.  He will think you are more professional doing that then show up and ask the question during the shoot.

This forum post carried on a lot longer than I thought it would. To anyone who was concerned about me not being ready for nudes... don't worry, I'm a big kid and I can handle myself.
Check my page in a few days and I'll likely have nude pictures up.
Thank you to everyone who gave input! I had tried googling and comparing Playboy to Penthouse and was having difficulty differentiating the two, but I feel like I have a much more clear perception now. :>

I was going to tell you to ask Ken Marcus.  He not only shot for both, but he was probably the best photographer in the history of Playboy and when he shot for Penthouse, he was Penthouse's best photographer.  Yes, better than Earl Miller or Suze Randall or any other photographer at both publications.  In fact, Ken Marcus, photographs women like no other photographer I have seen.  What Ken Marcus tells you on this subject, you better listen.  Now for my two cents, I think you're not really ready at this time to pose for either publication.

You can always get into the nitty gritty details of a shoot. Forget about sounding inexperienced. To not ask about something you don't understand IS inexperienced. That is much worse than sounding that way. Any photographer should be willing to tell you exactly what the shoot entails. If they are not, that says something right there.

P.S. No one here can tell you based on any knowledge of Penthouse or Playboy what is going to be expected. That was verbiage used by the person requesting that you shoot and they are the only one who knows what they meant. They may not even be that familiar with either publication.

My best friend did Penthouse. It's open-leg pink shots. Unless they've changed it recently? Isn't there a new owner or something? I don't know. I've seen some open leg in Playboy, but not in a way that's meant to direct your attention right there to the money (like in Penthouse or Hustler). Anyway, I would assume open-leg pink shots. Good luck!

Oh, and make sure you're clear on your limits. If you don't want to use your hands or toys, make sure the photographer knows it. Be clear. That way you don't get yourself into an uncomfortable situation. Be careful! =]

Really???  I thought that Penthouse went back to "open leg" format just recently???

If they keep changing formats like this, I swear - my balls will start bleeding!!!

Smart Girl, is'nt this what foroums are about, so we can all learn and develope off each other?? Tough I would suggest asking the photographer for the finer details, I'm sure he/she will be fine with the question.. You gotta set down the ground rules!

"Truth probably is that when some random guy says "Penthouse style" (regardless of what Penthouse actually publishes today), he will expect you to put a flashlight down your throat for backlight while he shoots the cover for "Gynecology Today".

Oh I so dislike these vague replies, is it incandescant, halogen, or LED, and if so, exactly how many LEDs is this flashlight? Just tell us the Candlepower!

.About the backlight, rather than be anal, lets not even go there.

Back on topic, if you have no underpants on, and fifteen guys with telephoto lenses that can tell if the strings are frayed on a football, a football field away.

Are taking pictures of you from fifteen different angles at fifteen different times, every fifteen seconds for fifteen different reasons.

Regardless of your Confidencence, which by the way I admire.

It does not matter how you pose, or how far your knees seem like distant neighbors.

In the words of one of my favorite models.

They are gonna take Poster sized pics, of "Your Downstairs, Girlie Business."

If you're kewl with that fine, just make sure all your releases use a Stage name, or it may affect your job opportunities in the future.

Jest my 2 friggin cents

Ask the one who used the words "up to Penthouse style nudes" what he means by that.
I'll tell you why;
~ up through the 1970s Penthouse was very similar to Playboy in explicitness (fully nude, sexually suggestive, no "pink", SOFTCORE).
~ Through the 80s and early 90s it had Hustler level explicitness (fully nude, full "female masturbation", spread open pink and cheeks, HARDCORE).
~ In 1997, Penthouse went even more hardcore than anything than had ever been in a major magazine (full on sex and oral sex, penetration, piss, simulated blood, bondage with penetration, EXTREMELY HARDCORE).
~ Around 2004, Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione lost control of the publishing of his own magazine (lost sales due to internet competition), and the investors took over. It went back to a SOFTCORE level of nudity. A total turnaround back to being even less explicit than in the 70s.

Ask the job offerer how hardcore the job would be, because it's the only way to know exactly what he has in mind....

He probably means the 80s Penthouse level nudity, but you gotta ask him...

I have a Penthouse from a year ago that shows pink, masturbation, toy use, girl/girl, and just straight up sex. I got an offer from Hustler but turned it down because I didn't want to go too much further than playboy style.

Penthouse style, you're going to be inserting things into your vagina.  Pretty darn sure about that one.

you said earlier it s 3 girl, 15 photog kind of shoot....

so my answer to "what would you need to be ready for..."

the 15 dudes holding cameras, that i imagine paid for a "workshop" which translates into "paid to see nekkid chicks huh huh huh, stuffing themselves with things.."   *shivers*

just being blunt and honest. if it's attention you are looking for...go ahead, have fun with that.   But my vote is, dont do it, show some class and keep doing what your doing, you are beautiful.

Don't worry about sounding inexperienced, ask. smile Playboy style is generally full frontal with no spreading and it's almost an industry standard. Playboy have shifted the goalposts a bit recently, but most people still understand what playboy style means. (Except of course, those who want to take advantage).

You've got the right idea, I think. As you can see there are a great many definitions coming up and asking what the Photographer means is prudent. (Not asking would sound more inexperienced). Penthouse style is not generally used to define a style, so it could mean anything.

Good luck.

I'd say this topic is subjective. I didn't see anywhere that this shoot was for Penthouse, just that it was to be shot 'Penthouse style".

What that says to me is that the photographer(s) want it to be more then what you'd expect to see in a Playboy (though I duly note what Ken Markus said with respect to current content in the magazines respectively). In other words, they'd like an 'anything goes' environment on this shoot.

I don't see a problem with that unless you have reservations or restrictions about such content. In the OP's posts, she seems to be excited by the idea more then she is reserved, so why not?
