I've never used Impact, but when you get the money, get yourself some Photogenics. They are freaking fabulous.

You have the best beaches in the world to shoot, now don't worry about taking mono lights to the beach instead find some homies to help and hold reflectors. Natural light is the best anyway, you have some nicest sunsets out there. Maybe you want to invest in full type of reflector instead of circular. You can make it yourself  and save or buy one from photoflex. Can't wait to go back to Hawaii I only been there like 7 times smile

haha true that.  I bought a sheet of shinny aluminum and it works good as a reflector.

look through my susnsets.

so go for the impacts since it comes with umbrellas and if the umbrellas crap out then go for some good name brand ones?

Yeah... would be a good choice.

Or, if you're like me and kill an umbrella a month, at least, just keep getting the cheapest you can find...lol

i'm sorry but i have to ask this question regarding your about me.  how can you write " im going to start charging for TFP/CD"??

because tfcd....to me, tfcd means no one gets paid, all i do is take your pictures and give you a cd.  But now, i do the shoot which includes makeup and hair, cd and prints so im charging for those things.  So that equals paid tfcd.  You pay for your hair, makeup,cd of all pictures and prints.

Stephen yes it's a screwy numbering system, but the  AB400 is 160ws true watts just like the AB800 is 320 true watts .

Just a few more differences between the Impacts and the Bees.

The Impact VSD monolight has variable power output from full to 1/8 power (3 stops).

Alien Bees are variable from full to 1/32 power (5 stops).

The impact VSD160 monolight has 2 reviews on the B&H web site.  One very good, one very bad.

Alien Bees are designed to work at voltages less than 120VAC, and switch to a lower recharge rate at lower voltages.    This allows more strobes than you would expect to be attached to their Vagabond II battery unit.

The impacts are not speced to work below 110 V.

The impacts are heavier, 3.5 lbs, vs 2.5lbs for the AB 400.

The impacts cost less.
