I just got totally slagged by someone. When I checked out their port I saw this;

"(3.5 hour INDOOR session for $100 FLATE RATE)
$60 down, then $40 on the day of the shoot

(3.5 hour OUTDOOR session $250 FLATE RATE)
$160 down, then $90 on the day of the shoot

WANT A TFP SESSION WITH ME?
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
$50 deposit (3 days before the shoot)
REFUNDABLE $40 when/if you show up for the shoot
$10 balance covers my time, electricity, and CD-rom
You get a 1.5 hour session with "the best images" after review
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

WANT A "SUPER TFP" SESSION WITH ME?
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
This requires a $200 deposit to secure your arrival (3 days before the shoot)
and CONVINCE ME TAKE 4,000 PICS WITHIN 5 HOURS

The Requirements:

*-*  YOU MUST HAVE SOMETHING I WANT TO PHOTOGRAPH

*-*  BE ABLE TO BE VERSATILE, MULTIPLE LOOKS, GREAT OUTFITS

*-*  MUST BE OVER 21 AND VERY SERIOUS ABOUT THIS PROJECT

*-*  IF YOU CANT ACHIEVE THE 4,000 CLICKS, THE $200 BECOMES MINE!

*-*  IF YOU DO, I REFUND THE $200 BACK TO YOU
       AND YOU GET ALL 4,000 IMAGES ON A DVD-ROM "

Seems unusual to me. Her final section looks like she's shooting for "content"--how many of those 4000 images will you be able to use?

She gets you there, then you have to 'convince' her to shoot 4000 images or pay her $200 for what she calls a TFP?

(Does showing up and running a 5-8 fps burst of JPEG/LOW files of the same scene for a few minutes count?)

Yes, 4000 pics in 5 hours is pretty odd. The only thing I can think of is they trying to break some sort of a Guinness record. And there's probably some drinking involved, otherwise I can't understand 'over 21' limitation.

4000 pics in 5 hours? Maybe 400? Then again, I started with film and I think before I shoot. 4000 in 5 hours is going to be at least 75% duplicates or trash or both.

I'm wondering if he ever shoots 3,999?

I know I never see $200 for TFP

Weird indeed.
4.000 clicks in five hours??  That sounds more like a video with the stills used as photographs. That is four of five secs for every pic not including the time to change CF cards !!
A nice catch by the way. If there are no 4.000 clicks in those five hours the 200 Dollars are for the photographer. Easy enough for him not to do those clicks and an easy buck made.

He's a photographer
in Las Vegas

He can do biz any way he wants to.

You left out the discount for MMers!

Why post this quote from him behind his back instead of just telling us what the problem / the slating was, or was about?
Sounds like he said this though

4000 clicks in 5 hours
= 800 clicks per hour
= 13.3 clicks per minute

At that rate, he will consume his shutter's usable life (100K clicks) in 25 sessions.  25 sessions @ $200 per session is $5000 so he better be shooting with a body that costs less or he is losing money!

Sorry for all that, I just felt like doing a little division :-)

I truly don't care how they run their business -pure entertainment value, no more-, I guess 'totally slagged' was an overstatement for a  sarcastic message

As an aside, you can replace the shutter mechanism. Unfortunately I know this from personal experience.

TF shoots...Time For Pay

NOT
Time For Stress
Time For Money
Time for Batshittery

Someone has some seriously weird demands to their portfolio and that's when you roll your eye and hit the "back" button.

Heh, thanks for the basic math class.  Regardless, sounds like a fun challenge, though I wouldn't want it to lead to the eventual replacement of my camera shutter.

What Photographer in his right mind would put his camera through such a test unless of course it was rented.

We're not called Crazy Canucks for nothing, but this shooter is way over the top. The work is OK, but not worth the hype and attitude. I get the feeling they've been burned a lot with no shows - and probably for good reason.

Cheers from Vancouver (the other side of Canada)
