Couldn’t find a similar topic in the archives ('though 58 hits on "portfolio") – if so please go easy on me ;o)

I would be happy about any suggestion on building a good portfolio.
I mean a “realâ€? portfolio – not the limited style you have here on MM.
When I check out portfolios in magazines or professional online pages there are always similar themes and shots like up to four pics from one style. Is that common or requested? Also I would like to know if you have several different portfolios at hand for different needs. If you approach a model do you use different prints then going to a business soliciting your work? Or do you have one BIG catalogue divided in chapters? How many pictures do you show? Do you show your whole array or just pinpoint pictures suiting the needs of the customer/model?

I’m kind of confused, since I want to build up some kind of professional portfolio, but I don’t want to leave something out or put too much in it. I appreciate any suggestion on that matter!

Thanks
