When I say Alternative modeling I mean like Aubrey kitching "or however you spell her name", Apnea, Raquel Reed Etc.

I've seen some great quality Alterntive images and I love the feel to them.

Do you think is a genre that my look could fit in. Or No?

I'm not sure we can answer this unless you post it in the critique forum, at least as per your question if we think your look fits the genre.

As for the other part.... hard work and a good business mind.

Should I post this in critique Mods can feel free to move it I wasnt sure where to post.

Does alternative work has to be done through agencies as well or is freelance work I've never understood how is done because is like a mix of glamour, fashion and art. so i'm stumble and unsure on how you can go about getting into the that genre.

Network, network, network, do a shoot or 2, then network some more. When you get tired of networking, do a shoot or 2, then get back to networking. Find photographer's whose work you like, figure out how to get a shoot with them. Be prepared to pay a little here and there, sometimes for photographers, more often for clothes. Find groups, clubs, message boards, myspace banners, whatever you can think. This will get your presence noticed, this will keep you in people's mind when they are casting projects, this will build you up.
Don't be shy about this crap, but don't be arrogant. Feel free to contact photographers for pictures, contact clothing companies(proper person of course), pass out cards, go to events and meet people, be bold.

Hope this helps, even slightly.

Well I am alternative in my everyday life. I listen to the music and dress the way and wear the brands on my everyday life. But I havent got into the alternative side of modeling since in my area not that many shooters that shoot the genre or maybe I haven't looked deep enough lol But my images here don't show alternative at all most photograpohers that contact me ask me to dress a certain way or look a certain way. So that is what is protray unfortunately.

This may sound overly simplified, but it's about the same way you get into modeling in general...you find a really good photographer to shoot with. No need for agencies, agents, managers, training, etc. etc.

There are plenty of photographers who would like to shoot a model with an alternative look, and even if a photographer doesn't indicate it, they'll probably shoot the "real" you if you mention what you're trying to do. Being able to do more mainstream type images along with alternative isn't a bad thing at all, though.

Since you also do photography, you could always do some self portraits as well. They may not come out as good as a composed and focused through the lens shot, but it would be a start, or at least a way to show off your alternative look.

Let people know in your bio that you're looking for alternative photographers and let them know you have the wardrobe to shoot in. Also, look for an alternative photographer close to you and ask for a TFCD to get started. Good luck! smile

Yes, I am serious.  Most well-known alt models (Scar, Nana Rape Blossom and Apnea, off the top of my head--the kind of models who have the banging portfolios in the style the OP wants) have paysites that contain sexually explicit images (aka porn).

Be the girl lots and lots of teenagers with disposable income want to be. Nekkidity helps immeasurably. The more explicit, a la Scar, Apnea, Mosh, Darenzia, etc., the better. If you can afford to hire the photographers who've already shot the models you admire, pay them. It's faster to get in their portfolios by paying them than anything else.

They don't shoot porn they shoot artistic nudes.. BIG difference!! There is no penetration or anything of that sort there for it isn't TOTALLY porn.  Although yes a lot of those models are on alt websites like suicide girls, gods girls, deviant nation, burning angel amongst some others.

(clearly my definition of porn is much different then yours)

Look into getting on one of those sites.. learn to be comfortable with your body.. find your style & run with it!

I think you or most anyone could pull off any look you wanted with the right photographer.

For you I'd say as a few others said and start looking for it and asking models you look up to if they can recommend anyone to you.

If you can travel, come to Seattle and I'll shoot you if you like my work.

Jessie...they do porn. SG, GG, DN, and especially BA are porn sites. They're super cute porn sites...but members still get to see girls shoving toys, etc., in their bodies because they pay a monthly fee.

Some of them also shoot artistic nudes. But they make money off teh pr0nz.

um...yes there is.

the artistic nudes are on the MM pages.  the naughty stuff is reserved for members who pay.  and it's that money that finances the lavish, gorgeous, artistic nudes we get to enjoy here on MM.

Yeah, 'cause those sites aren't porn.

If your definition of porn is limited to explicit penetration shots, then no, most of them don't shoot porn.  But they do shoot sets of sexually explicit photos which they then charge a monthly fee to view. And their client base isn't art lovers.

Anna, I've done makeup for girls for 3 of the 4 sites you mentioned. You might want to get a membership and look more closely. The girls DO NOT have to shove anything to be on those sites. As a matter of fact one of the most recent DN sets was implied bottomless with no "toys" other than the bubbles floating around.

I'm not going to get into the whole art -v- porn thing as it is a useless thing, but you've really made a misstatement about the site you referred to and I just wanted to clear that up.

I can't speak for any of the other sites, but I'm a GodsGirl, and while some of the models may be on the site for 'artistic expression', GG isn't just an alt-modeling site - it's an alt-porn site.   Yeah, the sets are sometimes cute and thematic and the only requirement is nudity - but the purpose of the sets is to look at pretty naked women and get aroused.  Sets are just as often raunchy and very explicit in nature.  Many of the models shoot together and do two-girl sets where they're touching/kissing each other in playful but purposefully erotic ways.

We don't try to call it anything it's not - it's soft-core (and sometimes hard-core) porn.  If you define porn only as hard-core/penetration, then you simply have a different definition - but know that many GG models also do hard-core sets.

Its purpose and feel is much different from the conceptual art nudes and figure work that I also do.

No, I really haven't. Not all of the sets are hardcore, but some of them are. I'm on GG; I don't do insertion, but there are plenty of hardcore sets on the site, and girls are definitely encouraged to be increasingly explicit. I'm friends with some of the photographers and models on DN. They all consider it to be a porn site. That's not a bad thing, that's just what it is. The material isn't for people who appreciate art, it's for people who want to jerk it to pretty altsy girls.

I'm 99% sure I saw Scar on the cover of lesbian porn movie.
Also just because it isn't explicit doesn't mean it isn't porn. People are not buying memberships to appreciate art, they're buying them to wank off to.

While I am not saying that those models do porn, Define "porn" in a way everyone agrees from the granny to the people here, and tell me it is as easy as saying porn only requires penetration "or stuff like that" in the photo. tongue My definition of porn could be waaaaaaaaaaaaay different than yours.

It really depends on what "level" of alt the OP wants.

Are we talking Hot Topic-like fashion alt or are we talking hardcore fetish, Rubberdoll/Emily Marilyn/BlueBlood/Kink.com/House of Gord/GwenMedia alt?

Either way, tattoos and piercings are not necessarily required.  However, for the latter, nudity, penetration, etc definitely are.

That is such bullshit about the porn comment.I have shot with allot of the same people as say Apnea ect and am friends with most of the girls you have mentioned. And I have never even done implied nudity. That is bullshit of you guys to say that because there are young girls reading this that will now think that you have to show the inside of your cervix to get your pic's taken. And it's also annoying that it's almost implied that those girls only got well known for "porn" when it's mainly their clothed pic's they are known for.
