Modelling under an Alias
I have been modelling as Vanitie Caise for two and a half years now. I always have that name used along with my images and never my real name. I'm starting to wondering if this is a good idea or whether it might be putting people off. Does anyone else on here use an alias all the time? Do you think it is hurting or hindering you? Many photographers I have worked with have only found out my real name when I sign a release. VC x Jun 01 09 11:32 am Link I always work under an alias, I have 5 and counting. Jun 01 09 11:35 am Link I think a lot of models work under aliases, especially those who do more risque work. (It's a little bit of Google protection, if nothing else.) Jun 01 09 11:35 am Link eh...my name just sucks lol so i shortened it to my first two initials Jun 01 09 11:36 am Link I do not think it helps or hinders. It is only an alias. I like having an alias because I like to keep my personal life personal. I have not heard any complaints about using an alias and I use a different alias when I am dancing. It is really only a matter of personal preference. Some people believe it is my real name. Jun 01 09 11:38 am Link I recommend that all female models use a 'stage name' when modeling. There are too many stalkers and weird people out there to have your real name easily accessible. So it's ok to use one? I mean, I know it's "ok" but photographers really don't have problems with it? Oooo and what a good way to come up with one? Jun 01 09 11:41 am Link Ok. Thanks everyone. Do you think a more realistic name might be a good idea? I first started using an alias so that if my dad looked me up he wouldnt find me but now he knows what I do anyway Jun 01 09 11:42 am Link I'm quite happy to have a modelling name. That way nothing comes up (google etc.) when someone hears you do modelling. Jun 01 09 11:43 am Link Britni Lacey wrote: Ehhhhh........ a lot of photographers are working under an alias as well. Britni Lacey wrote: I think that a realistic name is more professional. Jun 01 09 11:52 am Link A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Alias's are fine but when it comes to signing a model release, especially a 2257 compliant one, you'll be expected to sign the name that matches your two ID's. Jun 01 09 11:54 am Link I also know many models who are working under a "stage name" - I have no problem with it, and have encouraged it for some who are just starting out. It is a bit of protection, but as noted above, the "legal name" has to go on the release (and I verify that by seeing the ID) - so that the contract is valid. As for the question of "what kind of name" - I'm in agreement that a "real" sounding name is nice... Most of the models I've shot aren't in a hurry to be attached to something that sounds too much like a stripper or porn star name. My sympathies to all of the real women in the world whose parents thought it was a good idea to name you Destiny, Candi, Misti or Dream. - Dan Jun 01 09 11:57 am Link works right up till you get a client ready to wright you a check Jun 01 09 12:00 pm Link Pharaoh Studios wrote: I get checks written to my alias all the time. Jun 01 09 12:02 pm Link I personally can't stand this so called "stage names", but I do understand the purpose of them for those who wish to have no issues down the road with so called "stalkers". However you should reconsider at some point, as I personally don't believe its professional. When ever I do photo shoots I have release forms all the models have to agree to and sign before any shoot is conducted. I've actually had a few refuse to sign the release form with their real name. I require a valid ID card to verify the name they are using for release forms is legitimate. I'm on the fence about "stage names", I personal don't like them, but I do understand the purpose. However I don't like communicating with models especially when I interview, or conduct any business discussion, while referring to them by there Alias name. Its just unprofessional in my book. I personally do not disclose names or other contact information of the models, but I do require to be supplied their correct contact information and real name and last name for legal reasons. I put in the release form that I will not disclose their information unless I have written permission by the model. As long as the release is signed with their legal name, then why does it matter what name they prefer to use for their profession? Maybe some people prefer their stage name over their real name. Jun 01 09 12:50 pm Link DVS is not my real name...honest! Pseudonyms are fine and for the most part expected, in this industry. Sometimes they are for dramatic effect...sometimes for a sense of anonymity. I've never heard of any case where one damaged potential for work...unless you had the words "vagina" or "penis" in it, then it may a little. Jun 01 09 12:50 pm Link I work under one as well I forgot to mention it in the "have you sinned today forum". I'll try to make time Jun 01 09 12:51 pm Link Miss Vanitie Caise wrote: I think yours is wonderful as is. Its different and different stick in the mind a little longer than realistic. Jun 01 09 12:53 pm Link Miss Vanitie Caise wrote: I don't think it really matters...When it comes to a name the only thing that matters is on the Waiver/ Model Release it has BOTH the Legal and Stage name. ID also needs to be identical to the Legal Name...After that...the only thing I am concerned about is what to call you... Hiding your own, or refusing to use it in agreements or on a legal document doesn't usually come into it Jun 01 09 01:03 pm Link Miss Vanitie Caise wrote: I like your name Jun 01 09 01:04 pm Link Womin X LLC wrote: Another point. I gave my opinion elsewhere.. Point Stage name is ok by me.. Here is how it works if you do work with me.. First you fill out an information sheet with two photo ID's, before we take even the first test photo... We do not disclose any information. If the client wishes to employ the model for other jobs that we do not do, then I give the model the contact information, and she does or does not contact the client..it is in her hands.. Jun 01 09 01:14 pm Link Harold Rose wrote: Models I work with know who I am. Who else really matters? Honestly, the reason for my anonymity is bored, judgemental, gossiping, freaks. In a small community if you get labled as "that guy" who took some bikini photos or God forbid lingerie...your screwed. I earn my living with my camera. I love it. I work my arse off. I'm trying like hell to get out of here and compete in bigger markets. In the mean time, I'm not stupid enough to bring the witch hunters to my door. Jun 01 09 01:15 pm Link I even more understand it for models. I bet few have a problem with legalities over signing things for photographers they work with. That may be a relatively small group. It's the fact that anyone in the country can drop in and view their info that bothers them. How much more do you need than a name, age, city, and state if you really want to find someone. It's s.c.a.r.y! Jun 01 09 01:19 pm Link How is this for an alias? I changed it about 30 mins ago....
