What do you models look for in a photographer?
Yo I have an early call tomorrow, but I thought I would go ahead and put this out their anyways..., I want to see what you models look for in a photographer? What kind of photos attract you to them, and what kind turns you away? Apr 24 05 01:42 am Link A true Professional Photographer stays away from cattiness, works with all shapes and sizes and builds his book to encompass all types of work. That to me is my ideal photographer. Apr 24 05 01:52 am Link Hi Curvaceous I'd shoot you in some nice latex dresses if you diced to come to vegas. I have been looking for a NON modest model for the plus sixe market. Apr 24 05 01:58 am Link Hi, I am planning on a trip to vegas. email me... Apr 24 05 02:02 am Link Posted by CurvaceousModel: I'm never catty, but I am often irreverant. Just sayin' Apr 24 05 02:05 am Link Posted by Mike D: Well thank you...I know now not to worrie so much about detail, and Ill make sure to be as nice as possible... Apr 24 05 02:18 am Link Posted by Mike D: I used to study photography... I used to model. Now I am a Make-up Artist... I have found that I look for the same things in a photographer as an MUA as I did as a model - but with some of the general knowledge of photography. Apr 25 05 08:50 am Link What draws me to them are interesting pics.....images like a chick in a junkyard or something kinda out there. What keeps me from them are all nudity pics. I will never see a photographers that only has nude images on his profile. Apr 28 05 05:11 pm Link Photographers like you Mike you're fun, professional, know what you're looking for when you shoot. Have an eye to bring out a look. Easy to work with and make a model feel comfortable so can get right to work. Can't ask for more then that.. well snacks & drinks are apprecaited too! Apr 28 05 08:06 pm Link Posted by Mike D: Ive been modeling for about 4 years and have met all kinds of people in the industry models and photographers. Apr 28 05 08:31 pm Link Posted by Mike D: Great question Mike. Apr 28 05 08:40 pm Link I'll work with beginning photographers to extremely advanced photographers. What pulls me in to their images is their lighting, composition, backgrounds, backdrops, and the models they work with. What pushes me away is their unprofessionalism, their attitude, their bad communication. Apr 28 05 08:47 pm Link If I were a model, I'd look for me. But I'm not a model. I'm an ugly photographer. So I look for models who may or may not be looking for me. I look both ways before I cross streets. I look tough in black. I look like the drugs have taken their toll. I look to the future (that's so gay). I look defeated. I look like looking likes, less liken the looking to looking like looks. Looker. Look. Look. Damn, that word looks really stupid when you sit back and look at it... Look. What a dumb word. Apr 28 05 08:51 pm Link ROFLMAO...that was hard to read. But it was fun. Apr 28 05 08:59 pm Link When I view a photographer's photos, I tend to look for something outside the ordinary-- interesting use of color, cross-processed or infared film, wild hair or makeup, and (maybe one of the most important things) decent lighting. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between someone who has an Eye and Vision, and someone who just wants to take half naked photos of women in front of wrinkled bedsheets, er, I mean "backdrops". Then it's off to the references I go. Personality-wise, I like my photographers to be goofy (although serious when it's needed) and relatively hands-off. People who get too friendly (and touchy) too fast always squick me out. Apr 29 05 02:42 am Link i look for something edgy unusual that looks like a quality image. I love it when a photographer has a style and you think yeah, i'd love that style in my portfolio. You can tell if a photographer has an ey e for it or if it's just something they think they have an eye for. Of course much of it is subjective. Apr 29 05 03:25 am Link p.s i just looked at your page and theres some cool stuff there, particuarly the sepia image, the rooftop and the street scene. Nice work. good luck Apr 29 05 03:27 am Link When viewing a photographer's images, I look for three things. The first thing I look for is how versatile he or she is. If someone seems to be stuck on one theme, I tend to move to the next portfolio. The next thing I look for is demonstrated skill, the pictures should GRAB my eye in terms of clarity, color ( or contrast with b and w shots), and unsusual angles. The third thing I look at is the artistry and originality of the pic.I have seen some very creative, and original work here! I like to see that a photographer has thoughtfully selected what he or she thinks are the best images ( culled the pictures) for posting. Apr 29 05 05:42 am Link Like most in this thread, I look for something different in a photographer's portfolio - things with a bit of an edge to them. I also like a photographer that knows what he/she wants in the composition - let's here it for some DIRECTION. Interesting use of lighting always catches my eye. Apr 29 05 05:49 am Link Posted by Taryn: I always wanted to do a wedding dress shoot in a scrap yard May 11 05 08:44 pm Link in my observation, i see models acknowledge photographers that shoot slick artsy, over PS'd glamoury images.. its funny cause those type images are useless in a commercial portfolio... May 11 05 08:49 pm Link Posted by Doug Swinskey: Some people really dont care about a commercial portfolio though. I, personally, get sick of seeing the same boring glamour images over and over again and I love photographers that dont just follow what everyone else does and does the same ol shit. Gets rather boring. May 11 05 09:17 pm Link This whole thread makes me feel like a side of beef (hehe). May 11 05 09:48 pm Link Posted by *Mike D*: Here is what I look for in a photographer. May 11 05 09:54 pm Link Posted by Reese, VA . MUA: I try to make mine not too obnoxious, but I feel they have to be somewhat in an area where it's difficult for image thieves to Photoshop them out. May 11 05 10:03 pm Link Right - but 90% of the models out there will not become PRO - well maybe higher %.... Thus the cool slick stuff is what they want themselves to look like or just looks cool to them - thus they get to keep it for themselves... And take ti from me - not everyone likes the fact I take a perfectallly good image in standard tones and mess with it till it looks different than others... But people who shoot with me get double the images back - standard (or to me boring) color image - then a tweaked out or toned etc image.. Posted by Doug Swinskey: May 11 05 10:04 pm Link Well if you are truly basing your opinion on that fact - I cannot help you - feel free to tell all the image theiving buttholes out there and I will happily stop placing it on there - that woudl remove another step from editing... I woudl be soo happy... Posted by Reese, VA . MUA: May 11 05 10:06 pm Link Posted by Chanti: Sorry Just the way I am May 12 05 01:37 am Link |
