Models on stand-by.
Do any of the photographers here ever use stand-by models on important shoots? In case it's not clear, by stand-by, I mean in case the model booked doesn't show up, you have a back-up. A couple of questions in particular: For Models: Would your ego get hurt if you were contacted to be the stand-by? For Photographers & Models: For those of you who use this method, is it proper to pay the stand-by a small fee for showing up if the intended model shows? I think the answers are obvious. I would just like to get some feedback regarding the issue. Jul 28 05 03:00 pm Link agencys are real good at getting replacement models.. it's their reputationat stake... the model that shows for the shoot and gets her completed voucher back to the agency, gets the compensation.. Jul 28 05 03:19 pm Link Posted by Doug Swinskey: ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jul 28 05 03:22 pm Link But what if both show up? Jul 28 05 03:24 pm Link Posted by John Jebbia: a second model will only be dispatched after the first fails to appear...at that point, the primary model has lost the gig... Jul 28 05 03:32 pm Link Posted by John Jebbia: Having a back up is the smartest thing anyone can do! If they both show up, then shoot the one who was your primary OR put them both in! Jul 28 05 04:07 pm Link I don't know if I'd clear time in my schedule to stand by for a shoot. I'm sure it would depend on the circumstances. Hurt feelings aren't an issue, but time is. Jul 28 05 04:33 pm Link Posted by John Jebbia: As Doug pointed out - that's one of the big benefits of working with agencies. If there's a scheduling problem, a replacement (maybe not a perfect one, but pretty good) is usually readily available. Jul 28 05 04:53 pm Link No way. work is work. I just see it as, okay the other model was un-reliable so they look to me, the more reliable, professional one! Jul 28 05 04:55 pm Link I always have backup models, which is why I shoot more than 1 model at a time for IMPORTANT shoots. Jul 28 05 05:46 pm Link Posted by * Visual Mindscapes *: i have been sitting outside for a month, may i pul-lease shoot with you now Jul 28 05 08:35 pm Link My feelings wouldn't be hurt in the least. But I wouldn't agree to it unless I didn't have any plans anyway or it was something fairly big. I hate sitting around waiting when I could be doing something productive. Jul 28 05 08:40 pm Link You mean like, "Hey there, I need a backup twat to shoot." How important could the shoot be if the client wasn't picking the model? Paul Jul 28 05 09:26 pm Link Posted by Paul Ferrara: Well, I've never hidden the fact that I do things in sort of an unconventional way. It works for me so why change it.. The post was more meant to get thoughts on something I have been considering for a while now.. having a back-up when needed. Jul 28 05 09:33 pm Link |
