Tear it up, frame it, whatever you chose really, just do not try and cash/deposit it.

If the person who sent you the check contacted you via MM, please use CAM to report the matter and be sure to include either a link to the persons profile or their MM number.

Thanks.

Question from a nosy bystander.  What happens if one cashes the check.  I hope this is not too stupid, but the bank honors it and you get money.  I assume the check with bounce.  Is the person responsible for the money that withdrawn or is the bank shit out of luck.

The bank is never shit out of luck. Ever.

They will reverse the transaction and if you don't have the money in your account to cover it, plus their fees, you'll be in debt.

My son works in banking and let me know that the bank can come back to get their money from you even after months if the check turns out to be bad.  For example I'm out of the country for a number of months, someone gets their hands on my checks and issues one.  You accept and cash it in good faith.  I return to the country and find out this has been done and contact my bank, they in turn go after your bank who now comes to you for the money.  You're the one left holding the bag."

Just don't respond and that way they won't be able to verify if it is infact you, or even a working email.
