I have worked with many models now.  I have become close friends with many of them that I have worked with a lot.  Three of them had recently forwarded me an email that they have received.  To me it smells like a scam, but would like opinions of more people.  Here are my reasons for believing its a scam:
1smile Who pays a model with little clothing modeling experience to travel south across USA from PA to Miami, to model clothing?  Can't you find a reasonable model in Miami?
2smile The website that is "Under Construction" is currently either for sale or not fully registered.
3smile Who sends a payment to the model to be forwarded to someone else and "trust" them, without knowing them?
4smile Hard time contacting the correct person at the venue this is to take place.

Let me know what you think MM!

That's my opinion too and too much seems fishy.  I'm actually trying to talk a model out of it and she it too hopeful.  I'm afraid that she will get screwed paying out money.  I was hoping to either get some good evidence here to prove me wrong or more professional opinions to show her.

They tell you to cash the check, then send the remaining money back to someone else. By the time you have sent the money, your bank finds out it is a fraud check and you are out all that money.

I work with computers for a living and photography as a side business.  I was in computers when the first Nigerian Scam was around.  I tried explaining it to her, how they work.  You give money to someone else, but money promised to you bombs out so that you have send money to some one for nothing.  She feels since she was contacted by this person via IM and that the info "looks" promising that it is real.

Anytime anyone sends you a check and asks you to send a portion of it to someone else, IT IS A SCAM.

I googled that address, and a scam alert popped up.

If you scroll all the way down to the comments, other girls have been contacted with that address and same exact info. Here is your model's proof.

I've had big checks written to me before and then I'd have to disburse certain amounts to photographers, models, mua/hair, stylists, retouchers, etc. But of course there's always an in person meeting with the magazine first where contracts are signed and the amount of money is requested by me with an excel sheet. Anyhoo long story short. That's spam. Delete it.

funny, my dad is 80 and retired now, but once he told me that they used to get the same kid of scams thru regular mail (it was usually air mail) and thru the fax machine a few years later, I'm talking about the late 60s, 70s and early 80s...

Ha that's funny. But what is more pathetic is that a bunch of scammers from ruins can continuously run the same silly scam over and over again, and will net a fish everytime. Otherwise the OP wouldn't be asking the question if anyone else thinks this is a scam. OP Slap your friends silly for not failing to see the bad grammar in that email, and figuring it out for themselves. I don't condone violence, but every now and then you gotta crack an egg to make an omelet.

Oh yeh, besides the fact that these all have mispellings which is a big tip off that the ad is a scam, the forwarding of money to you in a bigger amount is so typical  - you cash their check, send your hard earned money and later discover that the big check from them bounces!!

Either way they are are doing this with a "website under construction" besides the other red flags, that is the biggest. What professional business will contact you without a valid website? If you know what I mean.
