True love.  I have a good friend who's in it for money -- he makes a lot of it, but now he hates photography.  Who needs that?

My grandmother always told me, "Do what you love, and the money will follow."

I sure hope she's right soon!

I`ve been hoping that way too now for about two years......

I used to do this just out of Love of art and Retro, but the Leica`s and the clothes and the traveling and vintage car rental and locations, it`s all too crazy  and too expensive to do for free or for art, that`s just stupid, and enough to break your pocketbook in two

I`m ready to make $$$ now, and without selling out to porn as well, (that`s going to be REALLY HARD)

It`s the HARDEST thing to do in life, to do something you really Love FULL-TIME and get paid for it......Gee, I regret not going to law school hmm

Despite making any $$$ I don`t think I could ever totally lose my interest or hate photography eventhough it gets pretty stupid sometimes...........BUT, MAYBE IT`S TIME TO SELL OUT? (well ok no not yet)

I have not found any real money in shooting glamour - everyone wants to shoot it and few places want to buy it and those that do buy already have their own photographers.

However, I have gotten paying gigs shooting other things based on the general photos in my portfolio - boring but $$ stuff like product photography.  So the product photography pays for the other photography and the day job pays the rent.

Well I have seen very very very few models do it for the love while on the net.  Very few indeed.

I have talked with 2 here an MM that say they do it for the love but I have never worked with any more that did anything without being paid for it.

I would love to find a model who has some interest in doing and going where I go for the love of the shoot.

But to be honest I do have to say that since I sell my Trip shoots to the photographers and they pay me then I do have to pay the models.

But yes I would love to find a model who would love to head out to a location for a week and shoot just for the joy of shooting and getting some killer images, working on some ideas for shots she wants and will look back on with fond memories.

Is there such a model?  Who can say. bs

Yes there is!  That interaction between photographer and model is why I do it.  Also every time I shoot I learn something new or visualize something new.

Yeah it would be great to someday make some $$, even if it was just to pay for my camera habit that would make me happier.  But for now it is pure joy to keep fine tuning my craft.

I do it for the love. Love of photography in general, not just glamour.

Sometimes think of ways to make money with it, but never, ever full-time.

I do wedding, event, corporate, and editorial photography for money.  My work with models is about art for art's sake and the learning and growth experiences inherent in creative collaborations.  I've never made a dime photographing models and I value the freedom to say "no" when it doesn't feel right.  From what I've seen of the industry and the abundance of attitudes and flakiness out there, I wouldn't want my livelihood to be dependent on my dealings with the insanity.

I do it because I love to express myself, I love to play dress-up, I love knowing how photos the photographer creates can evoke emotion and thoughts in those who view them. I love to interact with the camera/photographer and I love seeing the end product. And yes I suppose like chill factor, there's a little vanity in there too. wink

I love what I do, ive been a full time photographer/publisher since 1996.  I make good money too.

I wouldnt do it if it led me to be broke though.   I rarely do things for the beauty of it.  I am good with my customers and give them what they want.

Money. . . what money. I think I have only been paid twice in my 6 years of modeling.

I am in to be expressive and creative. I love seeing an idea or thought come to life in my photos.

Man, I can't wait to sell out!

sad  I don't think I am selling out.... I am simply a business person as well as an artist....  Selling out is when you forget about the artistic value or true value of things in lieu of money.  I have not gone that route, nor ever will.  Art is what keeps this job fresh and exciting and adds substance to it. (For me atleast).

Although it my case it's for the fun at this point. Money later. smile

I got into this because I figured I'd just print photos for some these girls that sell photos at trade shows.  Next thing I knew I was buying a camera and people liked my work.  For me, it is definately the love because I make next to nothing.  But I don't care because I'm having so much fun.  Digital technology (I've never fooled around with that thing they call film) is absolutely amazing and mind-boggling for me.  To go out, take a picture, come right now, download, and then print? WOW!  The problem is...I want to print EVERYTHING...but I don't have the money to print everything and more than that, I don't have anywhere to put all these prints tongue

My favorite thing to do though is to pick a favorite picture of any girl I have worked with, print it as an 11x14, have them sign it and then frame it.  When I get enough of these, I hope to have a wall covered with signed prints of everyone (or at least most) of the girls I have worked with!

LOVE?!?!?!?!?!?!... fuck that noise!... that's the shit that broken hearts are made of, and it just gets in the way of the REAL answer!

MONEY?!?!?!?!?!?!... who needs that crap!... when you're born with a silver spoon in your mouth, and on the big percentage end of a HUGE trust fund, goin to the ATM machine is like winning the lottery every day.

So... you wanna know the REAL answer?... HaHa... I'm ashamed of you... suprized you havent figured it out by now.  MODELING?!?!?!?!?!?!... oh pleaseeeeeeee... there's not a single girl in here that will ever reach supermodel status.  And PHOTOGRAPHERS... you knooooooow you'd give up a few months pay and 1000's of dollars of gigs for the REAL answer... yep... it's the ONLY thing I'm here for... THE WILD ANIMAL SEX!  I mean come on... look around... what do you see here?... this place is A GOLDMINE!... LOL!

I could care less about the love.  Love me or hate me, I could care less.  I have 3 paid model shoots this month, that's $350 each.  I have a full time job doing studio photography.  I work the nightclubs every weekend.  Sometimes I just need a break.  I do though need to pay the bills, but I also need some rest and relaxation from it all, which is why I have 2 other photographers to send out to take care of business when I need a break or just have no time to shoot.  I have a kid to support.  I have house payments to pay.  A new car.  All this camera and studio equipment I need to pay off.  I have a list of models in my database who want to work with me for trade, but never contacted them back.   I love my free time and I would rather not spend it shooting for free.  I'm so over all that love crap.

It is a dream.....and I do it for the love first and foremost.  If I am going to do anything at all, why not do something I love to do.  I also like getting paid to keep up with the expenses that are incurred with modeling....but more than anything, it is love and the want to get out there.

The real answer is because we have to!  The same reason why in the early 1900's, my Grandpa took pictures on a Crow Indian reservation in Montana. He used a glass plates in an 8 X 10 view camera.  He risked his life shooting a Crow Indian grave (it's in the trees) when he would have been scalped if caught. He used creative techniques like when he did a double exposure of an Indian holding a tomahawk over Custer's grave (the last stand) and why he paid the Indians to let him photograph them. They trusted him as he helped them build houses and taught them.

It's why my Dad and Uncles all took pictures during World War II ... while risking their lives for our future freedom.  It's in my blood.  It's in my nieces to continue this legacy of creating images.

Forget love, forget money.  I do it because "I have to!"

It's our legacy! Pictures capture moments that live on long after we are gone.

I love being part of a creative process, and I love art in all forms. There's nothing more satisfying for me than starting out with nothing but an idea, and collaborating with someone and making it happen.

However, I never turn down a paid shoot, lol.

Well Im in it for the love of the art, just becoming another person in a pose, getting to play a carachter through a photo is amazing as well as being able to collaborate and work with a photographer is awesome. A photographers creativity is like getting inside his brain and picking it...I know sounds weird! but However, as soon as I start making money as a model it will obviously be both...big_smile

I do it for the love of creating. I do paid work as well but mainly to pay the bills, not to get rich from. There is an old saying I once heard but forget how it goes. It basically meant that if you do anything purely for financial gain, like a lot of photographers have ended up doing, and not because you enjoy it, youre screwed, lol.

I personally model for the love of creating an interesting image. Ive turned down a lot of paid work simply because I don't want to do it or it does not interest me. I'd rather create something really striking and memorable. If I get a really well paid shoot then it's just a bonus
