The only people I know who really use facebook are 19 year old daughters of my friends who have an average of 455 friends. I dont know a single person who books makeup artists using facebook. Theres always some exception but I guarantee that person would have done just as well without it.

Facebook marketing, a super myth. Its really a way for Jesse Eisenberg to get an Oscar and families to stay in touch with Aunt Martha.

But if you love your FB, well enjoy.

It's been proven that Facebook marketing is on a rapid incline, about to level out with Google. I don't know about you, but Google gets a lot of work for people, and social networking is no myth. Facebook has given a lot of artists a platform to gain exposure...you should try it before you make a judgement based on your friend's kids. Facebook has done a lot for my brand and my business...and it's done a lot for my network of professional contacts....and it seems again...that everyone knows this...and you stand alone. I don't come to MM much anymore, but everytime I come to the forum, I read something negative you write to discourage others or down on the general industry.

BTW, it was great to look through all the FB pages posted on here!

I agree completely with Jordan. I have gotten a ton of work from both Facebook and Google. I'm one of the only local artists in my area, so googling my city + makeup artist pulls up my website, facebook, and MM all on the same page.

Geez louise can we get through a single thread w/o the "everything you all do will always suck and will never amount to anything" types of posts I am seeing in every otherwise perfectly normal threads? Off to find some Xanax somewhere.

If you want to be successful, you need to change with the times. Network marketing is HUGE. Having a positive attitude is also helpful.

Went through and liked all the MUAs - there were a ton!

By the way, there is a photographer in my town who basically gets ALL her work from FB clients...she has over 5,000 fans!

I frequently receive contact by clients who say they found me on FB.  Definitely NOT a waste of time.

Here is a cool app for facebook fan pages you guys might like. It will let you create a "Portfolio" tab with your photos with a nicer presentation than the built-in photos app.

Here is a sample

for those who think facebook is not a good marketing tool....please read.

I had this exact conversation recently with another "older" artist/store owner and she was saying that there is no reason for her to go to face book and she just doesn't have time and doesn't get it.  My reply to her was, "that's because you aren't 20 years old, but you better learn this stuff because your customers are young and they are all over facebook"

It's easy in this business to become a dinosaur and reject the new marketing rules but that isn't wise if you wish to remain relevant.

I remember my dad years ago was working as a Draftsman....he refused to do his work on a computer when that technology became available. He couldn't understand what was wrong with the way they had always built airplanes and he dismissed the entire idea.... mistake.

RCMA did the same thing..they wouldn't buy the RCMA domain name (I bought it and gave it to them) they didn't accept that the world was buying stuff on line and using credit cards.  They still don't take credit cards, even for $5,000 orders. Time to hire someone 20 years old.

I see this all the time... Someone hits 40ish and stops accepting that 20 year olds are not wired the same way....one of the reasons Fortune 500 companies like to keep a lot of  their workers on the young side.

I surround myself with people in their 20's to keep fresh and on top of whats going on and the minute I start thinking that I know what 20 somethings want is probably the day I run myself out of business.

We use our face book page as a way to upload lots of current work for free.
It costs a couple of $$$ to get our website's gallery updated.
Our facebook link with current photos is also on our website - so it is like having an extra gallery on the website
