Why in gods green earth would you love this site!!?? You must not care about copyright laws and how stealing peoples work affects it's value.

It is nothing but a bunch of sub sites that is a haven for people ripping off your work!

I can go to the site once as week and find stolen images of my work let alone hundreds that I know they did not get permission to post.

If I had my way the owners would receive 100 lashes and be thrown in prison for the rest of there natural lives... This includes people that copy and post other peoples work on this pirating site.

[edit]  Oh and try finding the contact email to send a TDN to. I finally bookmarked it! Then it is always a run around with a couple emails to get it done.

I've linked to it quite a bit from my main blog but if anyone is really interested just google "Lucky's Ring". It's mostly pretty tame but like I said, the last two posts make me think I shouldn't post a link here.

Yaknow whats pretty cool? MM still allows for rightclick-saving. I could post your entire MM portfolio to tumblr without crediting you.

You should probably close all of your online accounts and get off the internet ASAP. It's the only reasonable thing to do with your outlook.

As evidenced by the people posting in this thread and the hundreds if not thousands of other talented photographers/models/artists happily posting stuff to Tumblr and other websites we obviously feel it is a useful tool to get more people to see our work.

Will the occasional asshole edit out your watermark before posting your work, or even claim the work as their own? Sure. That's the nature of the internet and the world in general. There are assholes among us:) The benefits far outweigh any negative issues for most people though.

Yes that is why the site should be taken down. It creates an environment conducive to, I would say, even encourages ripping people off.

I am extremely disappointed in both Kess and Laura for getting on my opinion especially considering they are both talented artist and I'm sure they can understand copyright laws. Though they have NO legal stake in the stolen images!

Where does it end...
It's ok to right click and copy/post someones work??....
It's ok to rip a song from a friends cd?....
It's ok to photograph someones work at a gallery and then post that image as your online??...
It's ok to..............It's a slippery slope people!

I am not trying to hijack the discussion.... I am only responding to what I feel is an endorsement by the OP of a website I consider a huge contributor to online piracy!

I'm not going to close my accounts and shame on you for suggesting it. I agree with you to an extent but if you spend half as much time dissing me for my opinion as fighting the sites that encourage piracy with impunity we both would be better off!

No, its not okay to steal peoples images, or post them without giving proper credits.

Ive come to terms with the fact that people are going to do it, and it doesnt stop me from displaying my work.

Shame on me? I was just trying to save you a little heartache since you obviously haven't come to grips with life on the internet. Now could you please take your "opinion" somewhere besides this thread so the people who want to can get back to Tumblr lovin' wink

Yes Laura I understand that! I too have "Almost" come to that point.
However as it pertains to this site, Tumblr, my point with You and Kess is that you DO NOT have a vested interest in stopping the work from being stolen since I am confident that 'for the most part' neither of you OWN the copyrights to the images. I'm sorry but this makes your statements to me, in this regard, ring hollow as you have no long term stake in the images.
In fact just the opposite, the more your sexy little image is seen the more work you get.... It does not necessarily work that way for a photographer and you should know that! This is expsecially true when tumbler links back to a link.... on top of a link.. on top of a link... and then you find it's some jerk that removed the embedded file info and posted your work.

Tumblr makes it VERY difficult to enforce TDN's. They will not go back through the linked images and remove them! You have to send a TDN to EVERY link along the path and you can spend many hours sending these out.
I "May" love Tumblr if they were cool and eliminated the images and there links with only one TDN!
AND
In there policies they say that they will close accounts that are shown to be pirating images, and I have asked them several times to do this and they refuse. I think it is because the pirating subsites draw a lot of traffic with the stolen images.

You know, I'll be honest: the reblogging feature of tumblr is unnerving.  All of a sudden your images can be posted on anyone's blog.  It's just really difficult to digest on the outset.

Eventually I figured "If my pictures are going to be on tumblr, it may as well be because I put them there."  I really like the site; it's cool…

The reblogging is exactly why I enjoy tumblr, I'm not so veryprecious about my images and want as many people to enjoy them as possible, the internet is a nice place fore sharing and visually consuming such things...whether or not they know I created them is somewhat secondary. In the case of what I do the experiences are the most important part (to me personally) and if people inside and outside of my particular fetish can enjoy the the work created within my activities I say the more the merrier.
