DAMNED Art of the Day Competition for 05/17/11

TODAY'S THEME: "Nightmare"
Next Theme: "Sleep"
Past Themes: (link)

https://www.dvsdetroit.com/a/damned_aotd_w.gif

DAMNED DEFINED

Within the word “damned”, it is easy to envision devils, Hades and hellfire.  However, damnation may also reflect the eternal condemnation of self and the subtle abuse of one’s mind against itself.  It may reflect the emotional trappings within the haunting ghosts of the past.  Perhaps the immeasurable tendrils that bind us to our deepest longings or deprivations.

THE PURPOSE

To showcase those extraordinary creations that emanate from within these shadowed moments to often reveal enlightenment within our most darkest hours.  This art may be the one true reflection of self to express that beauty does lie within the repulsive, balance within imbalance or salvation within personal damnations.

THE RULES:

1 - DO NOT POST IMAGES - ONLY LINKS TO KEEP THINGS FAIR
2 - Stay on topic with the posted theme though artistic interpretation is welcome
3 - Mark links to mature images (blood, bondage, nudity) with "18+"
4 - Only one entry per person each day
5 - Only one vote per person each day
6 - No voting for yourself
7 - No spamming others to vote for a specific image
8 - Past winning images are not allowed to enter for 1 month

HOW TO ENTER

Using today's theme as a guide, look through your personal images (on MM or elsewhere) and find one that best fits the theme.  Artistic interpretation of the theme is welcome but DO NOT select a non-related image just to post something.  Then, copy either the image link or page link and post it in the thread.  DO NOT USE [IMG] TAG TO POST THE IMAGE.  If it contains anything the MM rules deem as mature (blood, bondage, nudity, etc), then please mark the link with "18+".  You may also add a brief editorial about the image, if you wish.

HOW TO VOTE

Voting starts at noon PST (MM Time or 3pm EST) and ends the next morning whenever the votes are tallied.  To vote, simply quote your favorite entry and type "VOTE" below it.  After the day's competition ends, the host will tally the votes and post the winner of the day.  In the case of a tie, the host will choose the image that best reflects the day's theme that is not their own.

Hosts: DVS (M-F) & The Alternative Pink (Sa & Su)

Sponsored by DAMNED IV - An Exhibition of Enlightened Darkness - CALL FOR ART NOW OPEN

Disclaimer: This competition is for entertainment purposes only.  Entries and winners here do not necessarily reflect the DAMNED Exhibition and are not considered exhibition entries.  The words chosen merely reflect desired themes for DAMNED call entries.

Normally don't use the 'add a description' rule but in this case I will.
My nephew Dillon was 4 years old. My basement is 125 years old and he does not like it. He agreed to this shot for some reason. The camera was set up at the bottom of the stairs with no flash. His mother was at the top of the stairs with her finger on the light switch. Dillon knew I was behind the stairs. He did not know I had the goalie mask on and he didn't know I was reaching out. When the light was turned out, the only light we had was a very small dollar store gas lantern that Dillon was holding. It was a little blurry because he wa shaking.
When he saw the finished photo, he said, "I was really scared, but thats a really cool picture."
