Show me your: 1 light (Beauty Dish Setup) with
Minimal to no post. With all the editing queens out there let's see your art w/out Photoshop work or minimal Photoshop work such as softening. Yes, I know the sun is a light but in this case I am hoping to see more with the beauty dish overpowering the sun vs. using it. 1. Please show your photo (not link it) unless 18+ 2. Diagrams or please tell us how it was lit 3. Post limited to softening, saturation/contrast changes.. no background changes or heavy post work. If you care to share "what your post was" then that would be great too. I do have another one light post - but is open to pretty much all 1 light beauty dish (2) with the sun setups. As stated above, I would like to see the overpowering of the sun but welcome to post whatever! - Thanks in advance guys/gals! Can't wait to see examples and diagrams! Jun 17 11 07:46 am Link Most of the time I shoot with only a single beauty dish for lighting. I don't use it as a beauty dish, per se, since I keep it around 15 feet away, but I love the light I get from this set up. I love the highlights on the skin and it produces shadows that are hard, but with a softer edge to them than if I used a smaller reflector. Since you ask about overpowering the sun, I suppose the setup would be similar. The first shot is film with no post work at all (even the dust spots are left) and the second shot is mostly just levels adjustment. Jun 17 11 08:30 am Link Thank you for your response.... Do you use a silver or white BD? I have seen/heard that the white BD is rather useless due to it being like a white umbrella rather than a BD... I assume if I used a sock it would be like an umbrella as well... Sorry for the questions.. I am a newb Jun 17 11 08:34 am Link EyeCanShoot wrote: A good share of my port was done with one white dish (positioned high center, pointed down). I'm not much for post work, so everything was minor adjustments in Lightroom. Jun 17 11 08:40 am Link EyeCanShoot wrote: White. I have 2, a 24" more traditional reflector shape and a 22" Speedotron. Both are white. I prefer the 24" for this kind of shot and the 22" for actual beauty work where it will be 3 feet or so from the subject. Jun 17 11 08:48 am Link Wow, lots of info! I already purchased the silver BD from AlienBee.. I have the 1600 as well to go with it. I guess ill have to see how it works eh.. And possibly ill just purchase the other AB BD... Ill have to re-read your post a couple of times lol... Thanks for the info! Jun 17 11 08:53 am Link Virtually no post at all. She doesn't need it. Jun 17 11 08:56 am Link gridded white BD Jun 17 11 10:31 am Link Jun 17 11 10:42 am Link Mola Demi - 20 Degree Grid - indoor - to the left of camera about 45 degrees from model, facing down from about 6' above the floor Mola Demi - No Grid, No Sock - over-powering the sun - placed left of the camera about 6' from the model, at eye level. Jun 17 11 11:17 am Link Really does have a flattering effect! Thanks for the descriptions as well.. very helpful! Jun 17 11 11:37 am Link B u m p! - Thanks for the support thus far! Good informative posts, help us newb's out! seems to be more difficult than not... People do so much post work, doesn't seem like there are a lot out there that can post in here. What a shame... Jun 19 11 06:36 am Link Here's a silver dish, though it's a little further away than I'd usually use a white dish. This was just an outtake while the MUA was working. If I remember right, this was just the one light with the model placed in a position to let the light fall off onto the backdrop, keeping the otherwise brighter yellow the right color to match the MU. Jun 19 11 11:12 am Link nice... Jun 20 11 07:02 pm Link BUMP! Jun 25 11 06:24 am Link bump Jun 27 11 10:57 pm Link Here is my first ever 1 light shoot with a BD only... I know I am not as good as you all, but take it for what it's worth. I finally get to contribute to my post! lol Beauty dish to camera left up about 6 feet in the air aiming down at the model. Jul 01 11 09:09 am Link My AB beauty dish has been my main studio light for a while, even when not used as a beauty dish per se. Nearly zero post on this one. Jul 01 11 09:45 am Link 22" gridded BD with hair light. BD to camera right; big spot light on BG is from the BD so you can get a good idea where it was located (about 2 foot above model and 5 foot back (camera was just above hair level, 85mm f9 or so)). Minimal PS, only blemish removal, skin softened, and contrast added. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/p … 8#23947862 Jul 19 11 09:38 am Link Jul 19 11 09:47 am Link bump Jul 10 13 10:31 am Link Jul 10 13 10:33 am Link Jul 10 13 10:51 am Link Jul 10 13 11:02 am Link Jul 10 13 11:05 am Link Jul 10 13 11:25 am Link ward wrote: Grid or no grid? It was around 6:30p ... the sun was behind the model on the right side of the camera, hiding behind the trees ... Post-work ... - Color select (WB & split tone) in Lightroom. - Stitching the final image from 32 images in Photoshop - Burned & dodge via layer masking overlay for contrast & dark feel of the image. - Retouched the model's skin & body since I want to print this big. - Sharpening at the end ... No other post-work ... those hassy on the top right was there since it was backlit, just darken the exposure down make it more of an effect ...
