This is 1 of 19 frames I quickly captured of Adriana.  (The only thing I did in post was to crop from an almost full body shot and do a CS6 auto contrast.)

Thank you!  I had just a couple of minutes to shoot those frames on a stair landing...as we were the last to "evacuate" the upper deck/golf area once the wind picked up...and the sun was setting.

(While there are a few "routine" things I usually do in Photoshop to enhance an image...I resisted the urge after I took a long look at this and decided it was meant to stand on its own.)

COMMENTARY:
The bridge appurtenance in the background was intentionally framed into the shot because it reflects the pirate's purpose: they both purpose to enhance environmental scanning.

[GEEK SPEAK]
Smaller image is from 1st of three link options in MM ("MM forum code").
Larger one is from 2nd of three link options in MM ("Image tag" preceded by [img]and followed by[/img]).
Link is from 3rd of three link options in MM ("Raw link").

Image was saved at 720 on longest side in LR on MacBook with 1 TB drive. 720 was what tutor picked somewhat arbitrarily.
Material assistance provided by Peter Phun who really knows his stuff. Although he's https://www.modelmayhem.com/739958, I found him thru Wyzant.

Some lessons learned, at least partially learned :-)
• To choose which catalog to launch Lightroom from, hold the Option key and then click on the LR icon.

• Do not rearrange the file structure as it will mess up LR's catalog. Really? Won't it refigure things out? Guess not.

• V to turn image into B&W.

• Compare before and after to maintain perspective and not overwork the image. How?

• Dock can be made invisible, placed left or bottom or right, made not to pop up irritatingly by going to....hmmm. Forgot already.

Notes to be modified later...as I review and clarify from MacBook. On iPhone in restaurant now.

It's not an easy task, but I would Photoshop out the structure in the background. It interferes with the telescope. Plus crop a little of the space on the left margin, putting the end of the telescope exactly at 1/3rd of the frame. Here's my crude attempt. Not perfect, but you get the idea:

https://cthompson.zenfolio.com/img/s2/v59/p1235190138-3.jpg

This version jumps out at you more. Just need someone more proficient in Photoshop!

But you've got more of these, let's see them.

I agree with JT... the structure enhances the photo's "story"...

Of course I am happy. Always have been! :-)

Switching to semi geek speak, my natural parlance, 😊 I stood inside that protuberance and recognize its recon value so you might say that I have somewhat less-than-objective bias towards including it. That inclusion bias notwithstanding, my inclusion while framing that shot was done a priori (before I got on the bridge). My subsequent continued inclusion in post production is perfectly justifiable because it juxtaposes two time periods and modus operandi of environmental scanning...whether the viewer agrees or not. While I am pretty self assured, I also do environmental scanning about technique etc. and I do take input to render a considered decision. I was told to trust my judgment--and I do!

Regarding cries for "More!" You're insatiable, aren't you?
I will see what I can do.
Michelle--piano--I have NOT forgotten you!

Back to "politics." One of my slogans before the trip was a parody of the presidential campaign slogan, "I like Ike!"  Clarkmeister, I love your avatar and I modified the slogan to "I like Lexie!"

I nominate her for inclusion on next trip!

Again, I wish to thank the members of the MM community who have participated so grandiosely to contribute to these images. You've seen how much help I've gotten so you know I'm sincere when I say, "I couldn't have done it alone!"

Safety commentary continued [from a fortnight or more ago where Gary lectured about not doing stupid stuff as a result of reported injuries].

I know we had some unsafe working conditions where some of us put ourselves where the waves could 'mash body into rock.

I was reminded of our experience when reading Ken Marcus' [http://www.modelmayhem.com/197198] account found at
https://www.modelmayhem.com/education/p … n-marcus-2
where he states about a third down the page:
"MM Edu: You must have loved the freedom to do anything you want, but was there ever a time you pushed things too far to get that perfect shot?

"Ken: You know, sometimes when you think of an artists life or career, it seems that they hit a peak and then they die. Well, I almost died in Yosemite."

I'll let you read the details for yourself if you're interested.

My point? Even the best of us can get hyperfocused and lose sight of safety. It's not necessarily a sign of senility, imbecility, idiocy or any such thing. It also supports my notion of having a designated person whose primary role is safety concerns. Yes, seems like overkill, even to me. But I like to avoid unnecessary losses at shoots whether lens, life, liberty or lucre! :-) [I just love to play with words].

$--PHONE.

As suggested, I went thru the withdrawal process...on the ship...and didn't use cellular service at sea so didn't incur international roaming fees.

However, AT&T bill was higher than expected and upon investigation I just discovered that texts to AND from my Canadian colleagues/friends/associates run me about 25 cents in coming AND outgoing, and chatting at the rate of 59 cents per minute!

Why doesn't my phone have a meter that indicates what it's costing?  I know, it's probably because it is not in the phone companys' best interest to inform the customer their billable rate as it occurs.

Live and so much to learn!

A credible character provided me with the following advice:
* Learn from other people's mistakes--it is cheaper.
* Learn from other people's successes--it is faster.
* Practice "being focused" on a daily basis.

This intel is provided to help you avoid similar mistakes!

----
CORRECTION & UPDATE: Another AT&T Customer service agent informs me that I only got billed for calls and texts that I initiate. This makes more sense and I find it more believable.

Also they didn't disclose a way that I should have detected that I was incurring about US$40 of incremental "post production" charges.
