The need to bring Escorts
troll troll your boat gently down the stream... Apr 01 12 08:26 am Link Seriously folks, I have been bringing escorts to shoots and I'm a male photographer. Though they might be skinny, take a sex-starved, drug-addled model with heavy eye makeup, put them in the same room as me and see what happens. Apr 01 12 08:55 am Link I don't allow "escorts", but I do allow "guests". Yeah, I know. The way I see it, some may come for protection, others just out of curiosity or just for "something to do". It does not bother me. The only thing I ask of the model in this regard is to let me know how many guests they will be bringing so I have enough food for everyone. -Koa- www.borikenwarrior.com Apr 01 12 08:57 am Link Yawn, before the lock Apr 01 12 08:57 am Link I just never shoot with models who are afraid of me. Apr 01 12 09:47 am Link If I felt the need to bring an escort for my protection, they'd have to be more skilled than I am at kicking ass. I have experience in 7 martial arts. There are very few people that are more able than I am that I'd be open to asking... and most, if not all, are female. If someone uses a gun, I'm probably not going to get far anyway... but neither is your standard escort. If I'm locked in a tower, I think it's safer just to count on myself to get out of it. I know how to fall. Apr 01 12 10:12 am Link When I shoot in remote locations or possibly risky areas, I usually take an escort to be a look-out or to add to our strength in numbers. It's often another photographer but it could be anyone who's pleasant to have along. That way, I can concentrate looking through my lens, rather than be distracted looking over my shoulder. These precautions have been welcomed by the models I invite to join me. Apr 01 12 10:17 am Link DRImages wrote: Yes yes very safe. That stuff is gross. If a photographer insisted I bring an escort, I would cancel the shoot. 1.) It's just creepy. 2.) I don't like "escorts" any more than most photographers do. The idea of having somebody on the set, or even just "waiting" for me in the same location as the shoot makes me nervous. 3.) There is no need for an escort when working with reputable photographers who have good reputations. Apr 01 12 10:29 am Link The two assumptions that I continually see regarding llama herders that I've never seen backed up and would like to see support for are: 1. What evidence is there that photo shoots pose any more physical risk than the many other activities people often do without llama herders? I meet women on dates one on one, in my office one on one, in isolated places of business one on one, frequently without them feeling a need for an llama herder. Other non-model independent contractors have come to my home. What makes me a bigger risk when I'm behind a camera? Can anyone provide any statistics on how many murders or violent attacks happen at photo shoots versus other settings? 2. What's the basis for concluding that bringing another person the model knows increases overall safety? If I'm a mad serial killer, wouldn't I just embrace a two for the price of one offer? Driving to a shoot is probably much more dangerous than anything that happens at the shoot. Doesn't having a second, unnecessary person in the car just double the potential injured victims in the event of an auto accident? Can anyone provide any statistics about the rate of deaths, injuries or assaults that occur when two people go to a shoot vs. when only one goes? There's very clear data that shows driving is dangerous and that texting while driving greatly increases this risk, yet many people do it. What evidence is there that shoots are dangerous and that bringing anyone along makes them less dangerous?
