Model with Michael wrote: Your profile picture is the best, because it has artistic merit. It achieves this by showing less. Your other images just show the model without any attempt to create art other than just record the model. I would suggest you study more about posing models in addition to learning lighting and composition. I wish you success with your work, Michael Interesting... Even if I disagree with your interpretation of my work.. 'Art' is subjective to the viewer and "Your other images just show the model without any attempt to create art" is a little harsh in my opinion, especially coming from a 'Photo Judge' without any attempt to qualify that statement.. *shrugs*

Madeleine Elisabeth wrote: Hi, just updated my portfolio and would love to hear your opinion!! Hi Madeleine, You've got the looks. Very eye-catching face, good form, long legs and gorgeous hair. But your full potential is not being realized in your current portfolio, because the photographers don't have the skills to bring out all of your excellent features. Best: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30837084 Because of the makeup and the hair. There is more feeling to the expression. It's the strongest picture in your portfolio, but with your looks you should have even better. You want a great head shot with a fantastic makeup job that brings out your fine features. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/p … 4#30795840 Because the pose is extremely unflattering. Your face is turned away at an awkward angle. The rest of the body is just there. Overall, seek out photographers with better skill sets whose work you admire. Much success, Michael

Merry Jane wrote: Sweet, I'd love to know what you think are my best and worst, and why? I really appreciate it. Best: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30225484 Because it shows off your fine featured face. It would be even stronger if cropped slightly above your top hand and just below your bare shoulder and there was just a little of the tree bark, drawing the focus entirely to your face. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31929430 This photo doesn't flatter you and having it duplicated doesn't improve it. You have very good features and a good form for nude modeling, but the photographers you worked with are not compatible with your abilities. The nude requires a great deal of photographic artistic ability which is rare in photographers. Much success, Michael

Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31924414 The model is just there. Makeup, hair, posing and the lighting are not flattering to the model. Overall your portfolio would benefit from you directing the model's pose more. It seems that you are relying on the model to strike a good pose, but she cannot see in the camera when you are taking the image. Work more on developing strong composition, so there is greater consistency in your style. Much success, Michael

Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30524882 Middle image because the model's eyes are closed, she has an awkward position and overall it is unflattering to her. In general, I find the images in tripdychs and diptychs compete with each other, lessening the value of the individual images. In still photography, the image should be able to stand on its own. When you give the viewer a series to look at in this format, it seems like you can't decide which one is strongest and so you are asking the viewer to choose. Very different body paint style that is interesting. Much success, Michael

Picking a single image to represent a shoot is not an objective.

CRISTOL SKY wrote: Would love to hear your advice on which direction I should take my career and where I would make the most out of it. Thank you Best: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/8115593 It's the best because it shows your excellent body form and it's a finished commercial type shot. It could be greatly improved with better lighting and more work on the posing, but it shows you well. You will make the most money with shots like this. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/8115603 I don't like the composition. I don't like the pose. The arm should not be bent like that so the muscle bulges in the upper right arm. The expression is of boredom. The background does nothing to enhance the image. The only attribute to the image is that someone wants to see partial breasts. I would seriously suggest you work with better photographers, because you need better composition and posing in your work if you want to get to high end photographers. These photos don't bring out your full potential. Much success, Michael

Excellent composition, lighting, posing of the model and a very creative concept. Good commercial shot. LISTED! Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31877897 Very poor composition, lighting and posing of the model. Brings down the rest of your portfolio. It's obvious that you put a lot of effort into your work. Overall you might consider doing more work that is of commercial value. You have a lot of interesting concepts, but some of them are also very cliche, meaning other people will be doing them too. You appear to be more than capable of doing more original work than your portfolio currently shows. Much success, Michael

It's a very good commercial shot. Does not matter how you made it, just that you did make it. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/27473556 This image lacks composition, correct lighting, and meaning. Your overall portfolio shows your ability to put together images that convey action in various sports. I wish you much continued success, Michael Thank you for your valuable feedback. - WL

Keith Aleksoff wrote: I would love to get some feedback. Thanks. Best: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31881877 Excellent model, makeup, pose. Very good commercial shot. It would be improved if the driver wasn't seen and she had a better expression. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31881861 Lacks good composition, lighting and posing. The model, who is fine, is just there. But there is no mood in the photo. The overall portfolio could use a lot of culling. It's better to have just all strong shots. Commercially, editors don't have time for diptychs and triptychs. It's up to the photographer to cull the strong from the weak. The better his or her skills in picking out the best photos, the easier s/he makes it on the commercial client. It turns them off when they have to choose amongst many. Much success, Michael

Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31365862 I really like the model, but it is the weakest of the group in your portfolio. Much more could be done with the pose to bring out the model's features. Overall your composition is too tight. You are too focused on a portion of the image instead of giving the subject space. I would suggest greater study of negative space to improve your composition. Much success, Michael

Jorge Kreimer wrote: Ok, judge me! You start your profile with: “The object of art is not to make sellable pictures. It is to save yourself.” Sherwood Anderson in a 1927 letter to his son. I strongly disagree with this statement. While I agree that art and/or beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I create beauty, what pleases my eye. You have really good models. You have some interesting lighting. But your method of handling the composition and posing of the models is not preferred by me. I wish you much continued success, Michael

A nice collaboration that resulted in an excellent beauty shot. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/22652479 While many relate to this photo, I see an incomplete image. You obviously had an idea in mind, but you failed to fully execute it to make it more understandable. Overall your crops are very tight. You should cull images from your portfolio, leaving only the ones you feel are strongest. Currently you have too many similar photos that compete with each other. Much success, Michael

The model has a playful expression. The strongest of your photos. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31365976 The model is just there. It's poor quality lighting and composition. The model appears to be a good model, but isn't handled well in this shot. Overall your portfolio is too heavily focused on red, so you are competing constantly against yourself. You need to learn more about composition and how to pose the female model. If you want to do pinup photography, you need to study the classic pinup images that usually have very strong compositions and playful expressions. Much success, Michael

The rock wall and the models legs lead the eye into the image. I like the composition, the lighting, the model and the pose. Classic styling. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31099968 I do not like the pose, the cropping, the composition, the lighting. The model's expression makes no sense and the surrounding background is too competitive. It has a very shallow tonal scale, which can work in certain cases, but doesn't in this image. Study posing of the figure more. And learn more about negative space and the variability of lighting. Your models are excellent and they are obviously working very hard. Much success, Michael
