Overall tonalities - the light shade of the shirt relative to the rest of the shot is causing my eye to go straight to the shirt rather than the face. Also, check with the printer who will print the book, the dark tones may not come out well. Next time, do a clothing consultation in advance and have alternatives to choose from. The expression - Is the slightly stern, thoughtful, expression appropriate for the content of the book? If so, fine. On the plus side, I like the hint of environmental background - That's a nice touch. If you know how the focus system works on your camera, maybe there's something wrong with your lens? Apr 21 13 02:09 pm Link Another thought - If this is for the cover itself rather than the back or fold-over of the jacket, you might want to crop a little wide on the shot to give the layout people enough room to overlay text or wrap the image around to the spine. I love the background on this shot and so wish I had gotten more light in his eyes and a sharper focus. I just bought a new Canon 18-135mm... I don't think it's the lens that's the problem. It's me. I gave my friend 28 photos to choose from... this wasn't the shot he chose for the cover. It wasn't what I thought was the best overall shot, either. I just effing love that background. DAMMIT!
