Do you ever contact photographers
Mac Intosh wrote: Agreed. That's perfect! Apr 07 14 12:16 pm Link If I like a photographer's work I'll write them a nice tag if they're far away and if they're with in traveling distance I'll send them a message asking if they want to shoot. Apr 07 14 02:04 pm Link I don't usually unless I really like their work and have the time to do a tf shoot, otherwise I just assume it would be "wrong" for me to contact a photographer because I charge for my time, and somehow contacting them suggests I'm not going to charge for it? I forget where I decided that or saw a photographer say that they assume this, but it sounds right sort of I wouldn't expect a photographer to contact me for a shoot and then tell me his rates, so it seems like good manners i guess Apr 07 14 02:18 pm Link speaking from my vast experience as a model. NOT. however i will say that when i first joined i had to pursue models but eventually they started pursuing me. maybe it's just a rite of passage. And re-contact if necessary Apr 07 14 03:07 pm Link Morgan_Rose wrote: If you're ever in virginia (or willing to travel) I'd be up for working with you, you have a great look and, equally important on model mayhem, seem genuinely interested in modeling. Apr 07 14 08:03 pm Link I normally let the photographer approach me first if they wish to shoot with me. I'll drop a comment on a photographer's picture and say I like their art, but it's super rare for me to go up to a photographer and say I'm interested in shooting with them. Blame it on my introversion tendencies. Apr 07 14 08:38 pm Link Eighty percent of the time, I contact them. Contacting doesn't ensure an answer though. Occasionally a photographer messages me. Apr 07 14 08:45 pm Link I check my inbox daily. Sometimes there's a shoot offer there; when it sounds good, I reply and blissfully accept. Lately it has been slow, so I have been contacting a lot of photographers. I am bored, got new hair, it's spring out there, I wanna shoot! I love getting messaged by an interested party, but scavaging for interesting talent nearby also works well for me, as I can contact exactly those who can benefit my port the best. Apr 07 14 11:12 pm Link Amelia Fae wrote I myself have been wondering an appropriate and polite way to do this because I move around a lot and not everyone checks out travel notices! Apr 09 14 06:02 pm Link I have been contacted few times only a small # had been nice & open on their hourly fee. The rest of them had Queens attitude kind of rude. Agues they think they do me favor to shoot with. That's one of the reasons I do not contact even if want to. It has been extremely exceptions who I shot with. Please don't take me wrong a traveling model it deserves to get paid . No doubt. Great attitude is a must...in my cases has been totally tacky. HarryL Apr 09 14 06:27 pm Link I only contact the ones that put castings up. Apr 09 14 06:32 pm Link Amelia Fae wrote: The writing part is fine but most fail in communication. I'm a shy person naturally, so I guess I find it a bit challenging. But I do once in awhile, and usually get a response. There are a good number of photographers I've worked with several times though, and they usually approach me when they want to shoot again. Apr 12 14 05:01 pm Link Danielle Reid wrote: They should not complain unless their profiles says they are not doing test/trades etc. at this time. Then it could be considered bait and switch maybe, but more likely someone would complain because you didn't read their profile notes. Sometimes you get the girl that'll send you a note saying "I love your work" because she's hoping you'll offer to shoot her. A couple of times lately I've made a game of just idly messaging the model and seeing how many messages back and forth it takes for her to muster up the courage to just ask for what she wants. I'm not a mind reader. Apr 13 14 02:26 am Link Amelia Fae wrote: Good approach! Far more ethical than other examples given in this thread. Apr 13 14 03:14 am Link When contacting photographers first for traveling work, is it best to leave a message or tag? Apr 27 14 07:49 am Link Cervezax wrote: If you're working for pay, you should actually read their profile to see if they ever pay models. I get tons of obnoxious offers for paid work even though I say I only work on a trade basis. The offenders get blocked immediately. Apr 27 14 03:12 pm Link I'm flattered and pleased when a model contacts me. The problem is that I'm virtually retired from photography but still working full-time on my day job, so it's difficult to match schedules. It does, though, work occasionally! But my message to the shy models is that if you want to work with someone, go ahead and make the contact; nothing really to lose. Apr 27 14 03:34 pm Link Unless I I guess this happens to most photographers. Models, don't be shy. If you don't contact someone, you already have a "NO". If you do contact someone, you might get a "YES". Apr 29 14 05:25 pm Link If I'm really interested in working with a photographer, I'll shoot them a a message telling the so. I prefer being direct. Apr 29 14 05:31 pm Link Cervezax wrote: I prefer messages, since I get a notification email on my phone with the content of the message, tags require me to log in and I often forget to look at them later. Apr 29 14 05:32 pm Link I get contacted fairly often, it's never a problem, I appreciate the models letting me know they're passing through. So much amazing talent that I may never have the opportunity to work with otherwise. Apr 29 14 07:32 pm Link I'm pretty apprehensive to contact photographers because I assume many don't want to work TFP and I don't want to offend them. So I wait! x) Apr 30 14 05:10 pm Link |
