I've been thinking about adding to my many talents by becoming a certified Make Up Artist. What school would be the best choice for me to attend in NYC for this?

Kevin, you're in luck, the Make-up Designory's New York Campus would be a superb choice... All my instructors encouraged me to consider it...  Please check out their Programs

That said there is a misconception that there is merit to obtaining a Certificate in make-up... Nothing could be further from industry realities... In fact it might not even be a wise move to put the aforementioned on your credentials...  Instead either license in cosmetology or obtain an esthetician's license...  Both cover makeup... and are viewed very favorably by agencies who rep artist...  New York has both...

Very important point...  The instant you apply product to another individual there are serious legal concerns... Possibly the most important item to obtain is professional liability insurance... even a license won't protect you if someone has an allergic reaction.

Hope this helps...
All the best on your journey...

I went to the Pamela Taylor makeup academy. She's a celebrity makeup artist and she has instructed many other people who went on to become celebrity makeup artists. She teaches you herself and if you don't want to take the class with 5 strangers she offers private classes.

I went to Makeup Designory in Burbank, I think Makeup Designory is the best school around. But, you shouldn't just stop there. Makeup is something that is very hard to teach, because everyone applies makeup differently, they all have their own way of doing things. Being a makeup artists means, to let your personality and taste show through your work. With that said, everyone has their own approach and style with makeup, so it's important to get multiple different view points, learn from numerous professionals. So, I think and easy and free way to learn some more about makeup is through online tutorials, here are some working professional makeup artists that make amazing videos.

Makeup is something that takes a lot of concentration, time and practice. You have to pay attention to the details.
Good luck!
