I will be shooting a portrait of a woman with very large eyes (about 35 years old). Frequently, you can see large amounts of white underneath her eyes. What is the most flattering makeup to emphasize and flatter this feature?

I have always loved the "smokey eye" look. Would this work on this woman's eyes? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Rather than using a stark white... use a flesh coloured pencil or skin tone concealer. And don't forget to smoke out the lower lash line. Bigger eyes stand out more when a nice smokey lower lash is present. smile however bigger eyes can afford to have a black on the water line or if you want a softer smokey eye try a brown on water line and browner greying hues for smoke instead of black

Smokey eye makeup works if the eyes are symmetrical, otherwise a slight skew can accentuate it and make it worse.  Doesn't work so well for beady eyes and makes them appear more beady and closed, imho, over people who have larger eyes.

I have one model I use for her large eyes and symmetrical eyelash line.  I've used different MUAH people with her and the smokey eye shots win out over the thin liner ones.  One exaggeration is here:

...and a lesser effect but eyes are still captivating,

If their eyes and eyebrow line seem to be their strong selling point, then you can play with them to accentuate it.  If not, then go to something else like hair, nose, ears, mouth and teeth, etc.

Applying black/brown eyeliner to the water line and around the perimeter of the eyes, will make eyes appear more closed and smaller, more sultry.

If you apply a nude eyeliner to the water line, and then line the lash line with black liner, it will make the eyes appear larger and open.

Hope that helps!

This. It will help make the eyes more proportional, although I'd be tempted to play with the feature and give them the focus by enlarging them even more (aka adding nude liner to the water line and smoking out the lower lash line).
