Playing with legends in Traveling Wilburys... George Harrison (Beatles)... Roy Orbison... Tom Keltner (drums)... Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra)... Bob Dylan... and of course... TOM PETTY!

Yeah, I just read about it, saw a post on Facebook and came here to start a thread... you beat me to it.  It's sad news.  I always did like his music.

I only recently have listened to the Traveling Wilburys but they were a pretty good group, to say the least.

Here's another of their videos: "End of the Line" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwqhdRs4jyA

NO DOUBT... superstars from several bands... shame about Roy's passing before their works were complete... hmm

Update (5:30 p.m.): The Los Angeles Police Department says it inadvertently confirmed news of Petty’s death to CBS. “The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty,” it said. The LAPD’s confirmation to CBS was the most widely-shared  report of Petty’s death.

In other words his death is not confirmed but it sounds like it's just a matter of time.

oh wow!  I am in shock, he was just in Sacramento a few weeks ago.
he canceled the show, and then made it up about a week later.

RIP Tom

I agree with you there; Roy had such a soulful voice.  A voice really unlike anyone else's.  I heard Roy was a pretty decent fellow in real life, too.  For that matter, I figure Tom Petty was probably the same way.

WOW... MSN just 'changed their story'.  From their website at 11:30am today, they reported from TMZ that he was deceased.  NOW... their updated story says he is on life support.  If he's in a life-suspending coma... maybe they can bring him back... wink

Let's hope he 'won't back down' from death and will overcome this.

what a cluster fuck of bad reporting all over this story. poor guy. whether he survives or not, this was a horrible bit of reporting. everyone racing for clicks, etc.

fucking terrible.

journalism is dead. that's the story.

when the manager confirms the story, it's real. RIP, tp. too many hits will be played in the following days, but let's not forget the "B" sides.

a great tune of a young man called by the muse. you don't choose music, it chooses you.
