You can find some real gems at a thrift store.

Aaron Brothers has frequent sales. I haven't looked for these on eBay, but that should be the BEST place to look.

But just one worthless opinion.

I've gotten some good deals at Michael's on section frames, paired with a
nice double matte and it's a classic look that's never out of style.

I buy them up from yard sales and thrift stores if they're in good condition.

If you're trying to hang a show look into Nielsen Frame Kits.

In addition to some of the box stores, I’ve ordered some great frames at reasonable prices from FrameUSA, including black metal gallery frames.

Depends a lot on size and where displayed.  I have an antique glazed cabinet full of framed images up to 7 ins x 5 ins.  The size and context reflects this
Largely gilt or mahogany to reflect the cabinet.

Outside, larger images are displayed in gold, with extra large - A1 etc as frameless mounted canvesses.

I display mages a lot, so my home is very much a display arena.

In answer to your question, go with what works best for you, your home and look, and your budget.  Your budget and you might mean you want to chnge the look soon/  So....

Edit
Buy cheap and take your chances - Or  make more money and...

Or  Find different ways of displaying your pictures.

I find really nice frames at garage sales for pennies on the dollar. No sense paying retail.
