I was curious about where people were choosing to immigrate, and ran across the following information.  I'd like to hear what you think about what those statistics say, if there are any particular surprises there, etc.

Since anyone who is going to respond here is most likely at least a distant descendant of an immigrant, we should be able to avoid making this a good/bad politicized argument that just ends up getting locked and forgotten.

"The United Nations published its most recent international migration data in 2013. According to the data, as of 2013, about 3.2 per cent of the world's population lives in some other country than their native country of birth. This figure is not much higher than that in 1960, when it stood at 2.6 per cent. The following data was also gathered in 2013 in regards to countries with the highest absolute immigrant populations. The United States made it to the first spot, with 45.8 million immigrants living within its borders."

Number Of Immigrant Residents, per Country
Rank    Country            Number of immigrants
1        United States        45,785,090
2        Russia            11,048,064
3        Germany            9,845,244
4        Saudi Arabia        9,060,433
5        U. Arab Emirates    7,826,981
6        United Kingdom    7,824,131
7        France            7,439,086
8        Canada            7,284,069
9        Australia            6,468,640
10        Spain            6,466,605

The world population in 1960 was about 3 billion, so 2.6% is 78 million

The world population in 2013 was about 7 billion, so 3.2% is 224 million

While the percentage has not changed much, the number of actual people has changed quite a bit.

Germany has about a quarter of our population and a quarter of our immigrants.

it would be more meaningful if it included more data, such as percent of population.

It would also be more meaningful if they showed statistics on which countries people are coming from into each of those countries with high numbers of immigrants, and break it down into numbers from there.
