not many retouchers do real decent retouching. most blur the hell out of everything and looks fake.

the good retouchers who know what they are doing have work and are really busy.

I don't think anyone has accurate statistical data to make such generalizations.

Also who is a photographer and who is a retoucher? Today almost everyone has a camera and takes pictures. Then plays with the result in the computer. Then publishes and tries to market (even just for likes).

So many more questions need to be answered before talking about "industry".

CVS PHARMACIES NO LONGER TO USE PHOTOSHOPPED IMAGES ON BEAUTY PRODUCTS !!!

There was a major news article yesterday in many major publications that says that CVS drugstores no longer want any of their images Photoshopped.

" CVS has just announced that it is banning Photoshopping of its beauty images. More specifically, the pharmacy chain will stop retouching in ways that “materially alter” the subjects in photos. CVS Pharmacy says the move is a “commitment to create new standards for post-production alterations of beauty imagery.” The new policy applies to photos used in CVS stores, on the company’s website, in marketing materials, and on social media."

They dont want their young makeup customers feeling bad because they never look as good as the models on the boxes or in their advertisements.  It also said that they will try to force this "No Photoshopped Policy" onto all other makeup  companies like Cover Girl or L'Oreal that also try to sell in their stores...and they have 7900 stores domestically in the US.

" CVS says it wants women to be able browse for lipstick and moisturizer without worrying whether their lips are full enough or their forehead is smooth enough.  We will not digitally alter or change a person's shape, size, proportion, skin or eye color or enhance or alter lines, wrinkles or other individual characteristics," CVS said in a press release. "We want our beauty aisle to be a place where our customers can always come to feel good, while representing and celebrating the authenticity and diversity of the communities we serve."

Pimples,  and messy hair pictures...  look to become the new benchmark in CVS's search to make a difference in their marketplace.   What if a foundation or lipstick manufacturers product really did make a positive difference... shouldn't they then show the kind of faces we all are used to today?

Not asleep... but I can tell ya this.  The 'Retouchers' membership on this site has EXPLODED in the last few years.  My TAG line with dozens of 'spam tags' from retouchers is proof of that.  It's my belief that competition between retouchers on this site is FIERCE!  Some of the most prolific robot spamming announcements made on MM's front page are from retouchers.

With the expanding growth of more user friendly and affordable editing software programs available to photographers, besides (huge learning curve) Photoshop and Lightroom, there appears to be less and less photographers requesting retouching services these days.  I've only worked with a few retouchers in the last 10+ years, and I have no desire to solicit their services in the future.
