Hi everyone
What is an easy process for getting photos from a computer onto IG? I don't particularly want to email all of them to my phone and post from there.
What do you do?

There is a plugin for Lightroom that will do it. I used to use that.

Now I use Lightroom CC Classic and a tool called buffer. Lightroom will sync my portfolio galleries to all my devices. I can pick any image and share it via Buffer. And buffer posts to my IG, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn in one shot.

I think you have to pay for the level of service I have but you can get one feed for free I believe.

Put the pictures you want on Instagram on Google Drive or Dropbox.
Put the Google Drive or Dropbox app(s) on your phone.
Use the apps to post the pictures to Instagram.

Definitely an option, thanks!

I go the dropbox route, myself.

The Lightroom plugin doesn't let you add a comment on upload. I use an initial comment to add my tags, which keeps the interface clean as users scroll to your post.

If you use Safari on your desktop, you could go under -Develop- User Agent- iPhone. That will change the view of Safari and it will allow you to upload images from your desktop.

posting to google PHOTO is the best option, not google drive.

(just set settings to "original quality")

that way, you can do last minute lighting tweaks as you view them **on the phone**.
The app then has a direct post-to-instagram option.

As a side path, if you install free google snapseed, you can then pull it from photo, to snapseed, to instagram.
snapseed lets you add any needed white border to make a non-square crop, square. while you get to view the final result
In Your Phone, which is rather crucial IMO.

(it also has a metric boatload of other filters and adjustments, but I personally dont tend to use them)

I just connect the phone to the computer and copy the images over.

I feel archaic.

When I connect my iPhone to my computer, the iPhone folders are read-only.  I can't copy images to it.

Here some ways if not mentioned already:

I keep it simple. I have the Dropbox app on my computer which integrates seamlessly into the default file explorer.

I save my image to the Dropbox folder. By the time I grab my phone and open the Dropbox app the image has already been synced. I export the image from Dropbox to my phone and move on. Simple!

Watch this 3 minute video from youtube. Quick and easy. It turns your computer into the phone mode. You can download straight from your files on the computer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcA4qK82Tl4

What if you don't have a Flicr account, nor a phone that can do that.

And it is still a bunch of extra steps. A bunch of steps so that FB can own your images.

except sometimes its better to see the images on an actual phone, before posting.

lots of times I've had images that looked GREAT on desktop, but mediocre on phone.
Doing final edits on the phone eliminates that problem.

sometimes simple is good...
yep, USB cable into the charging port... then "allow" the computer to connect to your device and "Bob" is your uncle...

Thanks for sharing an obvious and likely the most elegant solution Gary...

Me too. I have folders on my computer where I put IG specific crops and they are transferred to my iphone whenever I sync it.

Facebook owns Instagram so either way Facebook will be owning your images.

Putting then in a folder and syncing didn’t work because it wanted to erase all the images on my phone and replace them with the ones I want to post on IG.

Do you have an iphone?
If so, it's definitely possible. I've done it on a nearly daily basis for years.
If you're not using an iphone I don't have a clue how to help, but I'm sure there's a way.

yup, iPhone.
What I did was create a desktop folder for IG photos. i put in there some photos to upload. I went to my iphone settings in iTunes and told it to sync the photos in that folder. it asked me if I wanted to delete all the existing photos and sync those photos. I don't want to delete all the personal photos on my phone, just add those in the IG folder.

What settings did you set so that it does not delete the existing photos?

I may not be much help to be honest. I've been doing this with my last three phones... 5 or 6 years now, so I don't really remember what happened the first time I set it up.

What I would do if I were you is copy all the photos off of your phone to keep them safe and then just say yes when it asks you if you want to delete existing photos. I'm not really sure it will delete anything off your camera roll but you want to be safe. The folder you choose to sync can have as many sub folders as you like so if the photos do get deleted from your camera roll you can add them back in another synced folder.

Sorry if that sounds like gibberish. Either it's just really hard to explain a simple thing or I'm drunk smile
Here's what my iTunes photo page looks like.
