For many years, I used Craigslist to recruit  newbie models. Very hit and miss - mostly miss -  but once or twice a year you could bring out that diamond in the rough.

Then there was the FBI raid on Backpage.com, followed by  changes to the Communications Decency Act. These  ended the absolute immunity that website operators had for content posted by users. CL also instituted a fee for “talent gig” ads,  requiring a non-anonymous form of payment.

The first time  after the law change I tried posting an ad for “Playboy style” models,  it was immediately taken down. I received a snotty email directing me not to ever post any more ads like that. I didn’t.

A recent browse of the Talent Gigs section revealed a lot of seeking-model posts that were clearly aiming to produce NSFW content. Does this mean CL has re- evaluated their policy?

I’d be interested to hear the experiences of other photogs who may have tried to use CL to recruit models, especially nudes.

CL is a weird beast.  Any ad will stay up as long as they don't get many people flagging it.

A few months ago I put a paid ad in the gigs section for a figure model and it was flagged and removed with a special message warning me that this type of ad isn't tolerable and they're refunding my money and if I do it again they won't refund my money.

It was a very tame ad, not seeking anything pornographic.  I looked up the rules and didn't see anything prohibiting the ad that I placed,  A few other MM people reported similar experiences yet I still see ads that have been up for months (and keep repeating) for porn actors, escorts, cam girls and adult entertainers.

I've come to the not so difficult to reach conclusion that the people that flag ads are the scumbags and porn people that don't want any competition.

Once an ad is flagged it goes on some sort of 'list' so if it appears again (or if most of the keywords are used again) it's usually automatically flagged for removal.  Any of the other CL ads made from the account will also get removed quicker as well.  If you open another account and put the same ad up it's almost like starting over.  The ad won't be on CL's radar.

The scammers know this and thrive by using the loopholes to their benefit.  Real, legitimate people don't have the time nor patience to deal with it.

I still use Craigslist to find new models.  It's hit or miss which is much the same as I experience on MM.   I get about half my models from CL and about half from MM.  I find MM is better for experienced traveling models, but I find CL is a bit better for new models. (Since you can target a broader audience that doesn't yet view themselves as being a model, or isn't aware of MM.)

I've read there is a formula that gets ads removed which includes flagging, the reliability of the flagger, but also words used in the ad.  Avoid terms like glamour, art shoot, nude shoot, etc.  I have however seen ads that use the terms 18+ and don't seem to get removed.   I think it pays to keep ads short and give more details later.  I actually get just as good a response when I don't attach photos as when I do.  I've found ads offering pay, even low pay are less likely to get deleted than TF offers.  I seem to get less random deleting now that ads cost $3.

As an above post indicates, I've read their formula also makes  associations between ads you post.  Start posting the same thing repeatedly and it's more likely to get your ad removed, especially if it's similar to ads that have been flagged and deleted.  You can also  use their formula to help reduce the odds of your ad being deleted.

That's my experience for what it's worth.

That's a good point.  I think the reason behind it is when the ads were free every scammer and porn producer would post lots of ads and flag all other ads to remove the 'competition'.  Now that it costs a few bucks ($5 in my area) the scammers don't post ads anymore therefore have no reason to flag everyone else because they're no longer "competing".

I think you are right.  I think it's also possible that CL may have changed it's practices some when they started charging, possibly making it a bit harder for ads to get flagged, maybe having a moderator view more of them.   It's one thing to remove free ads without cause, quite another to remove ads that aren't a violation when someone paid to have that ad displayed.

Ditto. I haven't been shooting for the past few years, and CL was where I got most of my models. I posted the same ad recently that I have posted on CL for 10 years, and I got an email from a CL rep that said, "don't post that here." The ad did not even have the word nude in it. Yes, they have changed their policies. I still see ads for art nude models, but not glamour or lingerie style. The only sites I have seen where one can post for nude work is either sexyjobs or adultstaffing, But I don't produce porn. So like you, I'm not sure where to post a casting or a job other than here. I would also appreciate ideas.
