Samew old question
Hi all, Sorry but I'm new here and struggle to find model who wants to build their portfolio, I'm willing to shoot for free to build mine as well, any suggestions? Thanks! May 23 19 02:00 pm Link The browse function is your friend. May 23 19 04:30 pm Link Post a casting. Browse and message all that you want to work with..be ready for 40% not to read your message, another 40% read but don't respond, 15% respond but stop after the first message, 3% start talking back and forth to arrange something but it never works out and finally the 2% that you get to shoot. Okay, the percentages may be off but you get the general idea. P.S. my percentages are for the U.S., let me know if the U.K. does better. If you want to work trade, concentrate on new people who really need portfolio building. Be aware that they have joined the site to make money and may not understand they need experience and a good portfolio to generate paling jobs. Consider supply and demand. Some models get offers everyday to do trade shoots, including new models. What about your work will make them want to chose you out of the many offers they get? Consider that they may have had multiple bad experiences with doing trade shoots. Do you have a positive reputation on MM that gives the a comfort zone? Some of the common complaints models have: 1) The photographer never delivered the images; 2) The photographer delivered images but not the style the model wanted from the shoot= possibly the reason she decided to work with that particular photographer in the first place; 3) The images the photographer delivered were crap; 4) She has plenty of photographs and the landlord and grocer won't accept photos of her in lieu of cash. Keep swinging, someone once described the process of sourcing Models as like pouring liquid through a funnel. May 24 19 02:17 am Link Thanks a lot for all your comments, all true, % is also right. Contacted about 100 people and 2 shared their numbers to set a time and location, I'll keep it up, maybe a few times per week, as there are many models around . May 24 19 05:57 am Link Do you have any model/photographer Facebook groups where you live? In Vancouver we have several and most of it is TF. Maybe see if you have anything like that locally in your area. May 24 19 07:57 am Link Finding faces and people to shoot is not hard. Use friends and family and work on what it is you are trying to create. I looked at your portofolio and I cant tell what that is? A model looking to build hers or his isnt going to know what they will get from you, because your portfolio is a bit all over the place. One or two great images in a port is a lot more of a statement than 25 random ones. I'm also going to say this, your profile description doesn't match what you have posted. You talk about international recognition, well, you cant state stuff like that without providing a source of proof. Also, you mention a studio, but none of your images look like they came from a studio. I may seem a bit critical, but if your starting out, you have to focus on basics, not where all the models are. Last, this place is model-wanna-be-need-to-make-quick-buck-mayhem. People come here thinking it's an easy way to make some money, then get inundated with requests from people producing not much more than low quality soft porn, which a very large portion of this site is. That drives alot of people away with the quickness. Jun 10 19 04:42 pm Link A-T Shay wrote: Hello, Jun 11 19 05:40 am Link Jen B wrote: How would critique from other photographers help ? Jun 12 19 07:03 am Link PHP-Photography wrote: Ahh... since we are speaking in generalizations then generally speaking the forums on this site (with the single possible exception of the models only forum that I have never seen) are dominated by male photographers. USA cultural "norms" expressed in the "real world". I see no hope for change to that paradigm, sadly. In fact, it has gotten much worse over the years, the early years of MM were much more fun and there was much more female participation. Some just do not fit the profile of a model. At least what I think of. You never know what your getting. But its also a good way to practice shooting.
