In my opinion age does not negate the worth of an image.

I'm not keen on images with violence (which should have M on them with the current rules), and although I enjoy infrared photography myself, IR landscapes really don't fit in with a MM portfolio.

I believe the likes are only possible on new image uploads.  It'll appear on your friends' newsfeed for your them to click the like button.  However, if they are anything like me, I haven't really paid much attention to my newsfeed.
