As a budding teenager growing up in the South of France, I was convinced that curves on a woman were simply not a good thing. All around me were long-limbed, elegant gazelle-like girls and there I was, with what at the time seemed like ever-growing bust and hips. It wasn’t until I moved back to the US for my undergraduate degree that I realized ample hips and bust, coupled with a small waist, was something to be grateful for.
I was born outside of San Francisco and spent a large part of my childhood there. My father was French Canadian (though he identified completely with French culture) and my mother is Italian-American.
When I was 11, my parents and I moved to a little town in the South of France called La Londe-les-Maures. It was beautiful and living on the Côte d’Azur was an absolute feast for the eyes. When my sister would visit from her studies in the US, her camera would be whipped out immediately and the modeling shoots would ensue. We loved travelling around and finding the most beautiful landscapes. While in France, I got very serious in my voice studies and began to train as an opera singer. I was taking voice and piano lessons with the goal of returning to the US to pursue a degree in voice performance. At the age of 18, that is exactly what I did. I left behind the lush Mediterranean life and took off for big bustling Chicago. I fell in love with the city almost immediately.
I graduated almost two years ago and have remained in the city to take advantage of the many things it has to offer.
I love the new trend of women embracing their curves and I hope that continues!
