extensions or no extensions...
So I'm thinking about getting extensions but I don't know the best kind to get. There are various applications and I'm not sure which is the best option (that won't completely destroy my hair) or the best place to get them in the Boston area. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thx Apr 05 07 12:31 pm Link Extensions are pretty pricey no matter which application you do. They lso have to be redone every 3 months. If you have the time and money for those, I would get them sewn in . The glue or fusion (as I believe it's called ) ruins your hair. The safest way to go, clip in extensions. You can get them online, and at Sally Beauty Supply. Atleast then you can take them out whenever you want, they dont ruin your hair, and wont cost you an arm and a leg. Hope this helps! Apr 05 07 01:28 pm Link I've wasted my money on clip-on extensions before.. Yeah it was quite a waste because they don't stay in and don't look good. After that I decided to fork over the money for sewn in ones. MAN what a hassle. They looked ok I guess, it was just a gigantic pain in the ass to try to style. Just be sure you spend the money to get someone good, and use good REAL human hair. Otherwise it'll be a total nightmare like my experience was. Apr 05 07 01:31 pm Link I actully have the clip in extensions, which are great, but are still a pain in the butt to put in everytime you want to use them, it's easy just time consuming. I was thinking more so it's done and no fuss. But then again I suppose there would be some. Thanks, this deff helps! Apr 05 07 01:32 pm Link Google Apr 05 07 02:10 pm Link I've had bonded (glued) synthetic hair extensions a TON of times and I've never had my hair "ruined". Just make sure you go to someone who has experience. These guys will be in NYC towards the end of the month: http://www.hairpolice.com/2006_tour.shtml Apr 05 07 03:24 pm Link I just took out my extensions that i had glued in about week ago and it completely screwed my hair.... Extensions in all forms are just more of a hassle than anything, i don't think their even worth it anymore...but if you have to..i think getting them sewed in is the best option. Apr 05 07 03:42 pm Link B-town stand up! I know this has nothin to do wit the subject I just had to rep my hometown Moving on: I've noticed that hair extensions are so much more costly for whites than blacks. It seems like the same process is involved so why is that? Apr 05 07 07:12 pm Link I just got human hair extensions on Wednesday from Wildilocks, and they might weigh a tonne, but oh, I think they're oh so worth it. And it only set me back $500 too, so it wasn't that bad.... Apr 06 07 04:03 am Link i get bonded human hair extensions and have done them for 5 years so unless u dont know what your doing it wont damage your hair. i care for my hair so its not damaged, if u dont take care of them yes it will damage your hair Apr 06 07 10:17 am Link This helps...thanks!! Apr 06 07 10:19 am Link I have the sewn in extensions in my hair and I love them but some of the girls are right if it's not done right it can be a horrid experience. But whatever you end up getting I'm sure they will look great! Apr 06 07 10:23 am Link I was considering getting them...but overall I was advised and decided against them. I am growing out my hair from a prior pixie cut, but I have chosen to take the long & natural route. If you have the $$ and desire, do your research and get the BEST hair and stylist possible (e.g. virgin Euro hair and experience extension stylist). Prepare to pay as much for good hair as you could go out and buy a cheap used car... Apr 06 07 11:36 am Link Wow, mine only cost 80 dollars.... I must know the right people... Apr 06 07 03:51 pm Link You need to consult with a reputable hair salon. Everyone has different types of hair, and wants different things from their extensions (length, volume, etc) so it really depends what kind are the "best." For example, I was told since my hair is so fine that I would need little tiny pieces all over my head rather than several big strips or pieces. Good ones run about $3,000 and last about 6 months in my area. (Which is why I haven't gotten them yet!) Good luck! Apr 06 07 04:32 pm Link ANNABELLA wrote: I definitely hadn't noticed that. Mine were $130 per pack ( i used two) and it was $175 to get it sewn in. I have the Indian Remi hair that is manageable and can go either curly or straight. The sew in part was painful on my scalp for 4 days, but has been ok so far. It's been about weeks. Apr 07 07 03:02 am Link AshleyMichelle wrote: Either that or your salon used the cheapest materials they could find. Did they use real hair or synthetic? And at that price I would be concerned they had stuck the things in with craft glue instead of the real bonding. Apr 07 07 06:01 am Link I had bonded extensions in for about 4 months and I really loved them. Yes they were a pain and I had to really take care of them, but they looked great and I could do so much more with my hair in terms of style and what not. Plus the hair can be reused, so when I feel like I having them put back in I can take my bag-o-hair back into the salon Apr 07 07 06:03 am Link Look into Great Lengths extensions. They are expensive but last 6 months. I have them. Apr 07 07 06:10 am Link I just took out my hair extensions. I got two bags of real hair from Sally's. Then my freind put them in for me. I had them glued in, and the only problem I have found is that I still have glue in my hair. It comes out slowly. But I had mine in for 8 weeks. I loved the way they looked and it let me use my hair as a shirt. You can see an example in my profile pics. Make sure you get real human hair. It will last the longest, and look the best. Apr 07 07 11:14 pm Link I think the best way to go is to get a "human" hair half wig. It doesnt ruin your hair and you can style it any way you want. If you get different lengths you can go from short to long in 2 seconds. Then at night you can just take it off, put it in a hair net and let your own hair breathe from being covered by a wig all day. I am a nurse and gluing in extentions is like putting bacteria in your body. You have pores on your head and that glue is something that is not normally on your scalp, so naturally your body is going to develop a resistance to it which in turn can damage your hair. Sewn it extentions are ok, but it all depends on how tight your braids are done. Having braids done too tight will cause a strain on your hair roots eventually making them weak and then they fall out. If the braids are loose then tracks may slip and your hair will look bulky. Hence my reason for just using the half wigs..you can cover up the front with your own hair and it will look as if you dont have any type of wig on at all. I have used them for a while when i dont want to wear my natural "bob" cut. I hope this helps you girl! :-) Apr 12 07 10:11 pm Link I glue in human hair tracks. It feels a little funky the first few days but they loosen up and feel like part of your hair. My hair is shoulder length but in all but one of my port pictures I have extensions that I do myself. Use common sense when taking care of them. Treat them gently. The only problem I have with them is upon taking them out (the last batch I had in for two and a half months) they leave a little glue residue in your hair but you can comb it out over time with a little conditioner. I say go for it, it's a nice change from the everyday. Apr 12 07 10:52 pm Link I have cilp in extensions. some photos are on my portfolio, also I have some with out. I personally love them, if you get the right kind for your hair, no one can tell usually Apr 13 07 02:47 am Link ANNABELLA wrote: I've noticed that too Annabella. I don't go out and get Indian Remi hair, but I buy Milky Way and that is just as manageable. I pay at most $30 per pack for 14 inches. And I do my own hair. I've done my friends hair as well..both white and black. Apr 13 07 10:53 am Link Great Lengths - the most expensive but don't destroy your hair, look good and are stylable. I have extensions done regularly - once you're used to them they are easier to style than your usual hair as there is extra volume to work with.
