Hi! I'm doing a swimsuit shoot and am going to do a beachy wet look--both down and wavy/tousled and then slicked back in a tight ponytail or bun. What products are best for achieving the wet look?

you can use a product like gel or a "glass" product that makes the hair appear really shinny and "wet" looking, also water will to the trick too, you might need to play with it a bit to get the look you want, and if you want the "messy tossled " look dont let the model wash her hair the morning of the shoot, that will help with the texture smile

Water is great, but they will dry and run down quick. You could use Glycerin Spray from MAC, it is great for special effect for sweat. Also don't forget to use sun tan and bronzing products. NARS tanning and bronzing products are highly recommented

I've had success with humectants like Aveda's Brilliant.  It's pliable / holds moisture and great for slicked back pony tails.

Don't waste your money on MAC.  Go to the drugstore and by a bottle of glycerine for under $3.  Apply to wet hair avoiding roots and finger comb through.  Have the model flip her head over, finger comb again and flip back. Done.

There's actually a beach water spray (salt water?) product, I believe from KMS.  I may have found it with another line as well.  You spray it in, move it around with your hands, and it creates this look as if you had been swimming in the ocean about 30 minutes prior (or longer, if your hair dries slow).  I like it.  I've only used it twice though.

I use Bumble & Bumble Surf Spary and love it.  Good wet or dry. smile

bumble and bumble makes a sea salt type spray - so does d:fi.
personally the best thing i have found is kusco murphy beach hair. it has glitter and fine pieces of bamboo in it to add texture and shine.

Thanks everyone! The wave sprays really show up great in print? I'm just worried about "over-producting" the hair. Don't want it to look to look too matte/dirty.

John Frieda makes a product called "Beach Blonde".  It's obviously best when applied to wet hair.  Seperate hair into sections, saturate the hair with the product, and twist the hair around your fingers to give beach "waves".  It's GREAT!!  And makes your hair smell great, too.

This is the second time you've recommended this in the same thread so please give us more info on this.  I'd be afraid the hair would become too sticky and the coke would drip on the clothing etc.

Just add a can of coke to an empty spray bottle & spray it in the hair.. It gives that perfect texture for beach hair.. seperates beautifully ... you can do it to dry hair or damp hair... try it on yourself before so you get a feel for it... WORKS GREAT! XoX Kimmie

I've done a lot of beach shoots and I find that water works best.  But if I want the hair to have more shine to it I use aloe vera gel and water.

Most drugstores have their own (house) brand which is always the least expensive so go for that.

Unless you want to be standing by spraying the hair every 2 seconds, water won't cut it. I second (or third or fourth) the glycerine spray. It works wonders.

No, It get's a little gritty though so make sure you brush through it BEFORE you spray the shit out of it with the coke. Everytime I would bust out with the coke people would think I was nuts but the end result they LOVED... Lemme know how it goes!!

I have the B&B spray as well, I also have the Garnier Surf Spray and John Frieda Starlit Waves- both give a similar effect.

Aquage has one too.  Sea Salt Spray.

I've always used water coupled with whatever styling products we've already used for the wet look.

I have done this with a mixture of sea salt, water, and a drop of any kind of smoothing serum.
YOu can also fill a water bottle with the actual ocean water and just add a drop of sealant.

I've found this to be the best, cheapest, warmest (for the models comfort) and effective. The look is perfect and you can apply a few droplets of it on the face, throat and shoulders to look wet and it won't dry like water will.

I've used baby oil.  It stays wet, shiny and water resistant if it's a beach or pool shoot.  Comes out clean with shampoo.
