My hair is naturally very thick and curly, and I'm looking for a way to achieve that look:

It's not for a shoot where touch-up can be made every 15 minutes, but for my everyday life. My hairdresser can make my hair that straight using a flat iron, but it's never as shiny. Is there something that can be done for me make my hair shine? The products used must not be too 'wet', or they'll ruin the brushing.

I currently use Redken hair products (shampoo and conditioner).

Also, are there any tips for achieving a nice tight bun that will stay put? I only know about bobby pins and hairspray... I can do the basic bun and the french twist, but I see so many gorgeous (but more complicated) buns... I'd love to be able to get that look.

Hairnets are your friend for buns, because you can do sections etc and it keeps it nice and tidy smile and a lil bit of backcombing can help for volume and stability.
And for straightening... use a glossy product, and don't apply it too close to the roots of the hair. Lóreal do a product called Gloss Control, and it's great for frizzies and shine.
Hope that helps!

put a little baby oil in your hair when its wet out of shower after you towel dried it... and when i say a little i mean a LITTLE!!! and not in just one spot spread it over your hands then put your head down and scrunch lihgtly in different spots then work it in and blowdry and flat iron it.... i have longer hair and this makes it have that perfect shine and makes it very soft... but practice it a few times before you go out because if you use even a little too much... your hair will look super greasy and clump together... im talking dime size amount over hands... and it really helps with frizz too and will have none at all....

Thanks a lot! My hair has always been a problem for me: it's so thick it has too much volume and it's frizzy. I look like a strawberry blonde lion.

Maybe that baby oil thing will do the trick... I'll try it this weekend, the day before my (a few months late) birthday party! If I mess up, I'll have enough time to take a shower.

Tigi has a Product called S Factor Heat Defender Flat Iron Shine Spray that you spray on before flat ironing and it gives you incredible shine without greasiness and its so light its almost non-existent.

hair wax? makes it shiny usually without giving the "oily" look there's also the hair oil- as long as you put only a bit of it, you'll be good

Well your going to need a hella lot of product, Straigten your hair 1st and then style your hair.
the 1st image with the braids is probably faux braids, so you could simply pull all of your hair back into a pony tail and then get some long hair peices jumbo braids will work if your on a budget and braid em up and then place them where you want them.
2nd image is just a very flad pressed to head kinda style. You could simply straighten your hair and then apply some gell products and "glue it down to your head" basically.

Using hair nets will really help with the bun, and using large hair pins will help as well.. you can get a hair net at your local drug store in the hair accessories department.

You're absolutely right Mandy, I know the people involved with that image, including the hair stylist and it is fake, nylon plaited(braided) hair, which is why it looks so shiny and smooth.
