so my question is, who's had HAI and chose CHI instead?  Not to hijack the thread, but I've had a HAI and loved it, and I can't figure out if people who say to go with CHI have only had CHI and just never had problems, or have tried many different ones and like that best.

As for my opinion, I've tried HAI, hot tools (back in the day before I switched to ceramic) and Solia.  The Solia one's good, about the same price as a HAI, but I feel like it hasn't lasted as well.  I LOVED my HAI, but after dropping it on cement a few times, it gave up the ghost.  I'll probably go back to that when I buy a new one.  It lasted me about 2 years, no problems.  I was (obviously) pretty rough on it.

No experience with CHI to speak of.

Hai is great but it fried my hair.

Chi has something in it that dont fry the hair as much!

I have both!

Thanks!  It's nice having a view on both.  I'd like to try CHI, but I hate to buy something because "it's the best!" according to everyone, and then have it be disappointing.  I'll have to look in to those for the future.  I'm getting ready to buy again.

I really like Folica.com.  free shipping on some orders, and usually pretty fast.  I've used them a lot.  Good prices too!

I think babyliss is the best.  I have very thick hair and it works wonders.  Hot as soon as you plug it in.  I love mine.

Chi to me is overrated at it's price.

I should have checked into the Babyliss before I left.. damn.

Oh well.

The standard CHI was 130, and the standard HAI was 100.
I got a better artist discount on the HAI. So well see how it works out!

I'm cheap. I have a Conair Ceramic 1 inch flat iron (don't strike me for it cause I love it). For 25 bucks I can't complain, but my hair responds very well to heat styling. I can't justify the price for high end hair implements since I don't use them everyday. I'm a very wash and go kinda girl on my days off.

I have to agree. The CHI is overrated. I've had 2 and from my experience they go out too quick. I now have a Conair ceramic iron that I purchased from Target for 24.99 and I can honestly say NO problems what so ever and its been almost 2 years.

I was looking into babyliss after a few recommendations.. of those of you that have them, which priced model did you buy? Wouldn't want to go for the $80 (that i'm considering) if there isn't much difference between that and the $60, or even $20!

Coriolis.

It goes up to 400 degrees, and it's 100% ceramic. Plus, you can curl with it, and it costs less than Chi.

I have not tried the HAI iron- where do you get those?

Those of you who are licensed cosmetologists or estheticians can get the CHI at Maly's West or Midwest for about 90 bucks! I have the CHI and I love it. It works really well for straightening as well as curling. I curl my hair with it everyday!

I got an FHI which was maye 2 to 3 years ago on eBay for like $80 shipped. MSRP at the time was around $200+? However all the stylists I've used all have CHI. My FHI has temp control up to 400 degrees, heats up within 2 minutes and has a "ready" indicator on the inside. Only flat iron maybe 1x a month so I can't complain.

A lot of places that carry CHI carry HAI, or at least in my experience.
Any high end beauty salon/cosmetics store should have them. Definety try online.

I've had the CHI break on me in the past, so I don't use them any longer.  Although I do want the new volumizing chi with the beveled edges.

I currently use a Sedu am happy with it, but am going to check out the Babyliss as well.  My blowdryer and hot rollers are babyliss and I love them.

After reading all the reviews on Folica.com for the GhD, I'm very interested in hearing more from those here that have used it.

Chi's break ALOT.
We carry them in my salon, and I can tell you in the year I've been there, we've had over 10 of them returned - they do have a 1 year guarantee from our distributor, but they aren't as great as they used to be.
I love my GHD - I've had it three years now and it's still as great as the first day I used it.

I started with a Hai and loved it. It worked just as good as Chi.  It took forever to finally fry out on me so I could buy a chi. The only reason I switched was peer pressure. Haha. And if everyone else jumped off a bridge I suppose I would too smile

I have a ghd and it's amazing.

It does kinda make my hair have a funny smell, though.  And yes, I do use a heat protector (Redken Heat Glide).

I've had my Chi for over 2 years and I've had no problems.  I've dropped and traveled with it.  Mine at the time listed at $100.

I tried another stylist's GHD and was really impressed with it's performance.

I love my HAI!!
I can control the temperature which makes it perfect for any type of hair.
I've used a chi before and there great I just like to be in control of the temp.

HAI and GHD are rated among the best. CHI cares more about having a new color than new technology. HAI has an ajustable tempature control so you can change it for different clients. Not everyones hair can handle 450 degrees. It's also flater making waving and curling hair a breeze.

CHI have a 40% return rate - That's a lot of returns!! Especially if you consider how many people wouldn't bother sending it back.

I've had my GHD for 3 years now and it's still perfect. Love it!
