Planning out the next shoot, and in a discussion with those involved it was determined that I would look good with a bit of a larger mane of hair. I want to get something to clip in or pin on that would add to my hair and give me some more volume, not length. I have long hair to begin with so I don't necessarily need extensions.

Is what I want a 3/4 wig or crown wig? I'm not familiar with hairpieces and the different kinds, so I figured maybe some other models had experience with what to ask for when you go into a store to get the look you want. Something like this looked interesting and maybe suitable:

Also, anyone in the NYC area have a store they would recommend to buy such a thing? I'm not looking for high quality human hair, just something synthetic for shoots and the like. Thanks!

You might want to ask a mod to move this to the stylist forum.

If you just want something you can beat up a bit, try Sally's or just about any hair store on the corner.  Get something with some real length though, or else you'll just be adding volume to your hair.

Check out youtube for some tutorials on clip on extention (can't spell- it's late) placement.

You could also make you own clip-on hair, just buy the clips and whatever hair you want and sew it all together.  This is fun for crazier looks, like fire red highlights.  Make some of the clip-on hair sections 2ish" wide and other's 4-6" wide.
