Hey all,

Need some suggestions on a hotel in Los Angeles that would be good for a photoshoot... doing some shots for models wanting to submit to Maxim for the Hottie contest so it's gonna be bikini and lingerie...

Anyone shot at a hotel with a great bedroom decor?

The Chateau Marmont on Sunset. Len Prince shot a lot of his "About Glamour" book on location there and got some great images.

Man, I am so glad I have a studio and set design on location. I used tohave the same hassle, when I wanted to shoot something.

Got any friends with killer designs in their homes?

Or even the models?

I always try that first if I dont go in studio.

Just a thought...

Beverly Laurel Motor Hotel on Laurel.  Photographer friendly, funky '50's style and about $100 a night.  Every picture in my port that says "motel, West Hollywood" was made there.

It's a great price at $100/night if you like the neighborhood. I didn't mind it at all. But, "great bedroom decor" it's not. Like most hotel rooms in big cities, I think rooms are a bit generic until you get over the $150-$200 mark. Nearly double that for NYC.

The Belamar in Manhattan Beach has some interesting areas that might be condusive to photography.  They've got a great patio area as well as a pool that is partially covered.  The rates are pretty good as well (I was there last summer for about $130/night)

Hey Moondragon,

I'm doing shoots for the MAXIM contest too.  I was also thinking about hotels, but like somebody said most of the rooms look pretty generic.  I'm wondering if you get a room will they let you shoot by their pool without hassles?  Or better yet shooting in their common areas.  I have a feeling that the Beverly Hills Hotel people might have a problem with scantily clad hotties traipsing around the bungalows.

I was thinking about that motel on Sunset across from Ralphs, just west of La Brea.  They shoot movies there all the time so I'm guessing the rooms my have a little personality.  Don't know though.

Just called Figueroa Hotel and the rooms start at $124 for the king and twin and $138 for the queen.

Did you shoot in the rooms or some of the other areas on their site?  Was it hassle free?

You know, the more I look at the Figueroa Hotel the more I want to shoot there.  I think it's a great location and for $140 bucks for the queen room, which comes with a sofa I think it's a great deal!

I called back and the suites go for $175 - $225.  I think the queen will do though.

Hey Moondragon want to split a room?  We can put together a cool shoot of Model Mayhem people.  Maybe see if some MUAs or Stylists want to jump in the shoot.

Believe it or not, The Culver over in Culver City near those semi-new Pacific Theaters has some really interesting rooms. Styled after old Hollywood, kinda funky antique stuff going on. At least, that's the last time I was there about two years ago.

The Standard downtown has a no shoot policy. I had rented a suite there a few years back for a shoot. Not only did they say no shooting in the rooms, but they wanted to confiscate my gear as well ....or vacate the room. Fortunately one of the models that was working with me called the corporate offices in New York and told them I was shooting there for my collage finals and I would give the hotel credit as location on my term paper. Not only did they say OK, they gave me full roof access from 2am till 6am.  So you may want to check before planning anything at this hotel.

Hey Gregory,

Yeah we could split the cost of a 2-bedroom suite.... You take one bedroom and I take the other... we'll put the models and muas and stylists in the living room and just shoot until we drop smile

While I love the colors and style of the Figueroa Hotel - when I look at the Maxim site for Hometown Hotties and the pics they say to me more "traditional bedroom" decor... I dunno... I might be nitpicking smile

PS... I'm in Bangkok now so i can't shoot until 1st week in Feb.

Oh yeah and so far I have 30+ models that want to shoot... I don't know how the hell I'm gonna do them all in one day... might have to make it a weekend affair smile

Getting a suite might be a good idea.  I have a good amount of models that want to shoot too but I would limit the hotel shoot to less than 10.  Any more than that could be a drain on the makeup artist.

I will shoot the others at different locations.

30 sounds like way too many even for a weekend.  Let's say each one takes 1 hour to shoot including makeup and wardrobe changes.  That's 30 hours of shooting in a 48 hour period!  Are you sure you want to do that to yourself?
