I am looking for photos that show examples of 50's hair-do's.  I am planning a 50's style pin-up shoot and need to pick a hair style that will enhance the 50's look. Any ideas were I can find pictures?

that is a database of ads ad pictures from that era.

When I wanted to learn 50s hairstyling I went straight to the source. I went on Ebay and bought some dell purse books, they are full of "styling tips" and setting patterns that are actually from the 50s. So you kinda have to test different things out to see how they work and see what modern products can do a better job.

Those are paintings, but I taught myself how to do the hair by looking at the photos. It takes a lot of practice and patience though. I use setting lotion, hair spray, hot rollers, 1/2'' curling iron and bobby pins. I use flowers to cover any flaws I may notice so that I dont have to totally redo it.

another thing to remember is that the hairstyles in the 50s were done with wet sets. So if you really want to be authentic you can have the model sleep with the rollers or go under one of those hood dryers.

My mom used to wash my hair at night before bed, when I was a child, wrap them up in white socks...and then in the morning my hair would be so cute and wavy....did anyone else go thru that ritual?  You'd have to be OLD, like me....48.  The socks were soft, so it was easy to sleep on....lol
