So the FAQ has been reopened for any who wish to contribute. However, the thread is strictly for contributions, so this one is created to discuss the FAQs. If we can't keep the discussion and the FAQ separate, we are going to have to lock the thread again... (and I really don't want that :-))

So commence the chatter!

Newbies and all are welcome to ask questions here or add ideas of lists/organization of threads on certain topics.

Such as one I want to do but have not had time for would be a list of threads and links on traveling and travel advice for all members of the site.

Cool. I opened CAM yesterday on this text I found:

Forum etiquette

Certain rules of unspoken etiquette are recommended to be followed when using Internet forums. They include:

    * Contributors should avoid the use of all CAPITAL LETTERS in posts. ALL CAPS is considered "shouting" and causes readability issues.
    * Contributors should avoid capitalizing the first letter of every word in posts. Capitalizing every word causes readability issues, especially in large paragraphs.
    * One should read all the rules and guidelines established by the community. Some communities may have different regulations on a particular subject.
    * One should always be courteous to other forum members.
    * Before creating a new topic thread, one is advised to search to see if a similar topic already exists.
    * Contributors should follow standard grammar and spelling rules and avoid slang. Leetspeak and SMS-style shorthand are prohibited or frowned upon in some communities.
    * If the forum is categorized, one should strive to post in the correct section.
    * When making a technical inquiry, one should include as much technical information as possible, especially in the subject line.
    * Contributors are asked to stay on-topic.
    * Contributors should avoid double posting and Crossposting.
    * To avoid appearing self-absorbed, one should respond to topics started by others more often than starting topics of one's own.
    * One is advised not to resurrect a very old topic if nothing significant will be added. This practice is known as revival, bumping or Necroing.
    * One should try to refrain from lashing back at a poorly behaving member or participating in a flame war; instead, notify the messageboard's staff of the event.
    * When quoting a previous post, one should only include the relevant portion of that post. Contributors are requested to keep in mind that their audience can likely still see the message they are quoting on the same screen and can read it again if need be.

It was found originally at this web address:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netiquette

and it is listed as being under a GNU Free Documentation License at Wikipedia, which I understand to be free to copy and distribute without changing the text. There is also a reference document on "Netiquette" at this URL: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1855

I would prefer to know if this is within limits to do. I wanted to be clear on whether it infringed on any copyrights.

Thank you kindly.

I'd like to contribute in about a month, there's lots of topics to cover that I researched and noticed haven't been introduced to date, I've been tracking some that interest me and that I have contributed a bit to.

The season is in full swing, and especially with NY Fashion Week everyone is inspired to be more involved with fashion, everything and everyone from fashion magazines to Model Mayhem members.

Thank you for this Rachel!  I'm there.

Sorry, a CAM.

Marcus,

The only reason I have certain things in bold and all caps is to draw attention to the crucial points because there is so much information and text.

"I CREATED THIS THREAD AS A RESOURCE FOR EVERYBODY. THERE IS A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE, READILY AT YOUR FINGERTIPS. BEFORE YOU POST, SEE IF IT'S ALREADY BEEN POSTED "

"IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SUGGESTIONS OR DISCUSS THE FAQ THREAD, PLEASE GO TO THE FAQ DISCUSSION THREAD. WE WANT THIS TO BE EASY TO NAVIGATE AND NOT HAVE IT GET OFF TRACK."

I thought it was fairly obvious why I did the all caps, totally not meant to be "yelling" or anything.

Rachel,

No worries. This wasn't anything personal by all means. I really thought this set of rules (which I copied verbatim from the source) was in the vein of a contribution. Great thread, this. I'll think of a few ideas later today.

On a solution to the "Edit" option being gone:

David Klasfeld wrote:
Actually that doesn't work unless you include the thread id also, like so:
https://www.modelmayhem.com/edit_post.php?post_id=1234567&thread_id=123456

Just replace those numbers with your actual post and thread ids.

An easier way to tell which is which is, for PC Users, to right-click on QUOTE on the post they want to edit and click PROPERTIES.

So, the merger here is:

use this URL as your foundation : https://www.modelmayhem.com/edit_post.php?

and

(PC) Right-clicking on "Quote", copy the post and thread ID, such as the ones in bold (as an example)

https://www.modelmayhem.com/edit_post.php?post_id=1234567&thread_id=123456

As Mr. Klasfeld pointed out.

To see the post ID and Thread ID by hovering over "Quote",

On your browser

File | Edit  | View  | History  | Bookmarks  | Tools  | Help

Select View>Status Bar

so you can see the URL of the post at the bottom left corner (in Firefox or IE).

On MM, stylists are only broken down into hair, makeup, and wardrobe. There's no 'all in one' category, but you are able to create a profile under each category assuming you use the appropriate images and fill in the bio for each one accordingly. It's not as good as a 'super stylist' category but it's as close as you can get. smile

We actually really fought to get it separated, before we were all just "stylists"- which didn't make sense. Everybody started referring to the vanities department as a whole as "stylists". Just created confusion.

The FAQ is placed into the main sticky thread at the top of the forum now.
HMS: Rules, Resources and FAQ
https://www.modelmayhem.com/p.php?thread_id=241858

(Tyler's idea so do not beat me for it)

I would rather not see it bumped too often and become messy.
Stylist Forum: FAQs:
https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=65200

Makeup FAQ:
https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=243587

Body Painting FAQ:
https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=243647

Wardrobe Stylist and Product Stylist FAQ:
https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=243600

So maybe we could use this to bump up to make people aware of it.
(I need to send RR a note to make the first post on this thread have a link.)

Feel free to ask questions here.

Excellent!  I spoke to Alexander yesterday, he's got a fabulous outline going already for this and we discussed how many threads are good advice for more than one topic.  This is going to get big lol glad we have so many volunteers ^^

I'm happy that the FAQs are going to be updated. It's actually been a few years since they were yikes
With a little work they can become an even better resource.

Not sure if I'm posting in the right thread so apologies if not. I also used the search function and was unable to locate was I needed. Apologies as well if I missed something.

My question is about sanitation. The makeup fact post is wonderful and I lost could with the amount of times I've read it. However I do have a question and would love someone to help me with it. I read alot about alcohol to sanitize makeup products however I'm not able to buy them on the UK (not sure exactly why and if I'm wrong please let me know where to buy it).
Can anyone point me to a good replacement that I can use in the UK? Many thanks! smile
