Sorry my information last night was somewhat vague. There are a lot of conflicting stories but someone did hear from her. We thought she would be home last night based on the phone call but that didn't happen and we haven't heard from her and the original call was pretty vague. The police are pretty mixed up and when we were around town talking to people we heard some stories we were hoping to dismiss but now her car has shown up somewhere completely opposite of the phone call that confirms a weirder story... I can't really say much more than that at this point but I am on the line with the police right now.

At this point, the police are involved, and people in the area should continue to be on the lookout for her, it sounds like.

Is the person that heard from her "trust worthy" or could it have been a fake story for some reason? I hope everything turns out good

The police have been involved since day one. The problem is I tried to call them and let them know her car has been found but she is still missing and they just threw us around to different departments and ultimately an automated system that had nothing to do with what we're trying to do.

I just opened a CAM noting this and the previous locked thread. Hopefully the mods can continue to help in the search. The important thing is getting her found and back with her family or to professional care if she needs it.

The information I have is something that should be shared with the police or a few people who knew her and can physically go talk to some people and check the story out, not shared publicly on a forum. Unfortunately the police just threw us around to an automated system and weren'table to give them the info or ask them a vital question.

Ask to see the officer you named yesterday as the investigating officer. Question. Is she possibly involved with something illegal, or dangerous to herself, or both?

You probably need to contact the lead detective on the case, or actually go in to headquarters in person with your information. A car could potentially be a crime scene and the police will want to process it correctly so as not to disturb any evidence. If you got a phone call, they can start a trace in phone records for information as well.

I can certainly unlock the other thread, there is no problem there, but it would help a great deal if we can get a clear picture of the current situation re the missing model. If the OP would prefer not to post that info here for whatever reason, she is welcome to CAM it to the Mods.

She called my mom last night. But my mom ... I love her to death but she didn't ask the girl any questions and doesn't remember what she said very well. So she is somewhere and alive. But her car showed up somewhere confirming a strange story that we heard that we were hoping wasn't true. We thought this was something for the police to handle but they aren't interested. I will let the community know when we get something that is solid that she is safe and home. I really can't express the gratitude for the support and actually I kind of want to go through this thread and the other with her so she can see how much support and love she has. This really means a lot to me and I wish I could send you all gigantic bouquets of flowers and baskets and candy and puppies and bunnies and rockin camera gear.

Exactly. Not saying that she is or ever would be, but Texas is prime area for drug mules and gang activity. The police have to keep in mind that maybe she stole a suitcase of cocaine from a drug dealer and is headed to New York City to sell it. Not likely, but they don't know and we don't know. The best hope is that she left voluntarily, is somewhere safe, and will make contact with her friends and family when she is ready.

If by "she called my mom" you mean Mel called her, I think I understand. Or was it someone else? In any case, any chance you can reverse dial the number, see who answers, or is it too late to do that? I also assume you and her friends are going to where her car is supposedly located?

The sad thing is there is a girl from the area who was recently found dead in Mexico for that very reason. But I am sure that what Melanie is up to is not that.

Yes, Melanie called my mother. Melanie lives with my mother so this is normal and expected. Trust me I called the number back before I even got around to updating the internet world - it's a fax machine. And we're looking into the car situation.

Oh goodness I've updated my blog with a link to this thread, and a note that while ya'll know she's alive, you're still not sure where she is. I hope she comes back soon, and is alright.

In a way it goes beyond whether she wants to be found or not. Having the fliers up really helped we've gotten a couple calls that filled us in - she's been seen around town and she is sorting a few things out with her car before she comes home.

The thing you have to realize is it may not be that they aren't interested. It is more likely that since she has been heard from - as you stated - she isn't a missing person any more. May not be what you want to hear, but my guess is at this point she doesn't want to be found as stated earlier - for whatever reason.

Then perhaps it is best to respect that privacy and have this thread locked so the speculation stops. And I mean this sincerely - sometimes the toughest, but best thing to do as a friend is leave people alone. All this talk in the Forums at this point may only be making the situation worse. Something to think about.

Something to think about. I've noticed something funny. Once we got a call verifying she is around somewhere, people who don't know her or what's going on started acting like her friends and family are being rude stalkers. I'll be straightforward - we're the ones who know what the story is and at what point 'the best thing to do is leave her alone' so if you're going to talk shit about how her family needs to just chill out over her being god-knows-where-and-maybe-dead-and-certainly-sick for 2 weeks, then can you can suck my ladyballs. This is how we roll. We're old school southerners and Cubans. We look after our own. We live in this city, and we know full well what kind of trouble a city like this can cause a girl. The response from this community has been astounding, overwhelming, and moving... it's made the last two weeks much easier for family to bear knowing that there was a solid wall of support behind us. I'm frankly impressed and touched by the reaction to Mel's disappearance. Me and her friends and family are still trying to get in touch and write back with everyone who wrote us. It's going to take awhile and soon Mel will hopefully be able to personally thank you all too. I know it will make her feel good to know how many people were pulling for her in a tough time. And for that I really can't thank you enough. But Greg, I've got to say, looking for Mel was(is) the right thing to do. If you knew her 'in real life' you would too. She's that fancypants.

Understand, though, that there is also a problem here for everyone. Itâs the old "boy who cried wolf" situation. We have had threads here numerous times about someone missing, who later turned up just fine and in some cases didn't WANT to be found. It causes turmoil in the community here and if the whole thing turns out to be a hoax or just someone behaving badly, it makes it less likely that the next time, maybe when someone really IS in trouble, that they will get the help they need. You can't post a cry for help and then get all vague later on. And you can't expect to put the situation out there, ask for help, then get mad when people offer advice if the situation changes. So we need to know- has she been found FOR SURE? Is she safe, yes or no? Was this whole thing just bullshit, or was she actually in danger and needed the community looking out for her? Is she still in danger or is the whole thing over? On a final note- do you understand why the police didn't get as involved as you thought they might? They know that despite the alarmism and panic, most of the time when someone "vanishes" that there really isn't a law enforcement problem. They aren't going to waste taxpayers money searching for someone who really isnât missing. At this point, if its over, you need to open another CAM and ask that both threads be locked and hidden so nobody else wastes time or effort on looking for someone who doesn't want to be found.

She's been found alive. She hasn't come home for her reasons whether it be financial or otherwise. The initial purpose of the other thread was to locate her and that's been done. Both threads should now be hidden and locked. It's teetering on invading this girls privacy at this point.
