We need a convention. It would be great to have a couple a year maybe one West Coast (Vegas?), one East Coast (Atlanta?). Have one in the spring, one in the fall. Then the following year do a North and a South. Have a few workshops in between the parties. Thinking of the possibilities of getting some of the awesome models in the same room together.

This idea was floated before and died like a lead balloon. People are wonderful about suggesting things, but horrible with committing to them.

this is discussed every few months. fact is, most sf2'ers are too lazy to follow up about getting together! Even when they are in the same city

It seems that FetCon is used as a substitute - and, as has been mentioned, how can you expect anything with Mayhem in the title to be organized? That's why the servers suck, you know.

That's why the servers suck, you know. the same applies to FetCon. It's in July/August. You'll have people say they are going in October, but June/July, they start falling off the earth! We are flakes!

I'm not a flake. I'm poor. There's a difference. And it was done, once, successfully, I believe. GingerCon?

I suppose it would give me an excuse to get a passport. And if I can bring Fred, that would be a great "We've been dating for 5 years and haven't killed each yet" trip for us. Especially since we were considering going to Ireland anyway.

Cheaper than most 3.5* hotels. food included?

If you guys seriously want to do this, I'd be willing to organize it. @ Liz - You'd be more than welcome to bring Fred as far as I'm concerned. I figure if we do it, we do it primarily as a vacation with opportunities to shoot, rather than a shootout with a vacation tacked on. @ Damon - No, that would be accommodation only but considering it's the Cote D'Azur, it's still pretty cheap. For food, providing we buy locally and cook for cook for ourselves, add $50 to 75 per person per week to the total and that would cover good eating, accompanied by decent local wine and beer. I can't remember if it's you or Larry that loves cooking, but semi rural France is a gastronauts delight when it comes to getting quality ingredients cheaply. The area I'm looking at is Var, which is fairly urbanised along the coast (St Maxime, St Tropez, etc) with supermarkets, clubs, bars, etc, but go three miles inland and you're in the countryside. It's kinda like going from San Fran into the Napa Valley, just with more villages, French accents and all the beaches along the coast are either nude or topless.

We'd probably only stay a week. I suppose I should figure out plane tickets now so we can start saving.

I'd be worried that some people might go into Witness relocation late in the game, leaving the rest of us to hold the bag! *paranoid*

I love France and I'd love to go but, seeing as we would have to plan it a year ahead I see the inevitable 'Oh, something came up' or just people poofing into thin air.

Some airports will also be cheaper to fly into than say Paris. United is currently advertising round trip (peak season) Seattle to Marseille for $868 per person. Round trip airfare from LAX or SFO tends to be around the $1000 mark, so it looks like West coast to Europe $800 to $1000, getting cheaper the closer you get to the East coast.

Now the good thing is we probably won't need to confirm the bookings till around eight weeks out. So no one stands to lose money up to that point and everyone should know by then if they are going to make it. What we could do, is find a similarly sized place, just a little cheaper but leave it at the same price. That way if one or two drop out, the rest are still covered, if no one drops out, the excess money either gets refunded or goes towards food/partying/trips We could also consider overbooking by one or two. If no one drops out and the "spares" end up on a futon, we compensate them with a partial refund Another option, if at confirmation time (at which point flights would need to be booked anyway) only six or eight can make it, just get a smaller house. From what I can see, at $500 per person, we can cater for anything from four to fourteen people with the only variable being the size of the villa. We would not have to sacrifice facilities or location, just overall number of bedrooms. I would suggest right now, we just have everyone interested start saving, start looking at villa's and go from there.
