Bill Correira otherwise know locally as Woo was a local Artist that passed away almost a year ago. He left a hole in the local art community and many here miss him and a celebration has transpired of his life and what he meant to the community.

Is the Womurial Mural in his honor and it will be finalized and dedicated November 30th at the celebration.

He inspired so many people in the local community his paintings can be found all over. Even a co-worked who's husband simply met him in a barber shop has one of his pieces in their home because they were so taken by his work and person.

Many members of the community were asked to contribute a piece of work in his honor to the mural (a fish as this is what he was know so well for)

I am simply a student/hobbyist and for now my art is kept stacked up against the wall but I was asked and inspired to contribute this piece to the memorial:

It can be found in the lower right hand corner below the Turtle.

My favorite part of the wall is all the kids hand prints that make up the coral reef in the lower left corner. Kids from the community, artist's children and children artist.

I only ever met him a few times in his shop. And even though he was busy he was probably one of the nicest guys you would want to know. He took the time and truly acknowledged that you were there and showed a real interest in what you had to say. You walked away feeling as though you had known him a lifetime.

I was just down the street the evening he passed, awaiting for my art instructor at the studio, when the news came. It really shook everyone hard. And even though I had only met just those few times I could see why everyone was devastated. He was blessed with MANY friends for sure.

There will be a dedication celebration the 30th of November local artist will be there making art right there on the spot in the streets (something Woo was well known for) and displaying art. There will be food, and music and good times.

If you are local please come out and join the celebration.

Thanks for sharing.  Keeping his art alive is an awesome thing!

And even more importantly, imho, keeping his spirit for art alive and hopefully inspiring more people to take up the craft.

One of the items I am looking to contribute is an outlined version of the wall image above sans color. (I've got one created already, you can see it in my port.) To be used as a handout for the children as a sort of coloring book page.

And on the flip side of that page a sort of blank page for them to create their own fish. One of the organizers said, and I agreed, that it would be great to see what the results would be. I'm pushing for that in some fashion or another.
