Hi everybody I am a high school photography teacher. Please submit your assignments for grading. I will grade you on a scale of A-F.
I will tell you what I think is best and what is your worst. I will be blunt and honest just like a real teacher, unless I favor you and I might bump your grade up a bit... Ha just kidding...

Hi,

Am a model but would love a critique from the technical perspective that you'd be providing!

Thanks!

Your work reminds me of something I'd see in a tommy or nautica catalog. I'm unsure if that's what your going for. If not I would work on trying to do different angles. To many of your shots feel standard. They majority are excellent shots, but don't pop.

This is my favorite shot: https://modelmayhm-4.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/070809/19/46bbad5ab63bf_m.jpg

It would have been even better without the barn she's leaning on.

Your top 2 images are amazing.
My favorite is your first: https://modelmayhm-3.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/080319/15/47e166ec49581_m.jpg

The rest doesn't match those shots. I feel your port is very jumbled and could use some cleaning. Honestly the top row is the only pictures I would keep. You need to look for photographers with better lighting and editing techniques. You either need to find someone who does well with bright colors, or pale tones.

You seem to do well with capturing happiness. At least that's what I feel when I look at your images.

Your middle row in your port is better than the others. The bottom row does nothing for your portfolio.

I think your a very pretty girl, but your pictures do not show it. Especially your top row. Stay away from the images that are so far away that we can't see your beauty. I would delete the entire top two rows of your portfolio. You need to find some better photographers because you have talent.

If you deleted the top rows and made the picture I posted your first in your port I'd bump that up to a C+ or B-

I really like your top row of pictures but my favorite is : https://modelmayhm-9.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/080309/23/47d4aa4167a75_m.jpg

I'm not a big fan of nudity unless it's black and white but some of your stuff works. I do not feel it works for you when you're out of the fantasy aspect. Is the fantasy look a new style for you? I feel as if you have too many styles going on in your port. Some of them I really like, but I'd get rid of the half that don't look quality.

Overall C
If I picked my 10 favorite images from your port B+

I feel as if every image meshes together nicely with the rest of your port. I do feel as if you have too many portraits in your 4th row. You're lighting is fantastic. I don't really have any suggestions because I feel as if you know your style and it's excellent.

Your portfolio in my opinion is plain and doesn't know what it wants to be.
I do like the images you did in this series: https://modelmayhm-7.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/070824/20/46cf8c84bd465_m.jpg
But even that shot lacks power. You need to develop a better color palette. You either need to juice the color with pictures like this and work on better lighting, or make your images more pale. The plain color your images represent are fine for senior pictures, but in my opinion only senior pictures. If this is the look you're going after I would remove all nude shots from your portfolio. I do not feel someone who does that type of photography can also do the other. It sends mixed messages on the type of person your photography represents. Invest in Photoshop.

Grade: D+
If you got rid of all of the clutter and picked your best 20 pictures C+/B-. Quality beats quality every time.

Hmmm.... I came across this and took a look at your portfolio. I was thinking that if you deleted your top two rows, learned how to color correct, stop worrying about whether people will think your photographs are good (or 'sexy')... you might be hired as a photographer instead of a highschool photography teacher. This is just my humble opinion as a former college photography professor and full time designer. wink

I think your comments would have been good if she and the photographer was going after Maxim shots. As most of them were editorial shots for a larger work called "When I Grow Up: A Portrait of Anorexia" the advice is out of place. Further, you see, to be in disagreement with the real photographers that are commenting on them.
