Experience with Sekonic light meters
Any experience with this model: Sekonic L-308S Flashmate? Recommend something different for around the same money or less? Thank you in advance. Feb 27 07 10:27 am Link That's what I use and I love it. Small, does everything I need, can hold and operate everything with one hand, priced right. Feb 27 07 10:51 am Link If you are on a shoestring budget, you can get a used Gossen Luna Pro for about $50. It can meter both strobe and ambient light. I currently have one of the Sekonic Dual Pros. It is overkill since I only rarely use the spotmeter feature. I absolutely loved the Minolta Model III. Model IV is also good. You could probably find these used at a very reasonable cost. Feb 27 07 11:03 am Link I have the Sekonic L-358 Flash Master and love it. Sekonic has a good rep and puts out some nice stuff. I bought into them based on reputation. I would suggest spending some more money on a light meter that will last you a long time and will grow with you. There is no sense in buying a cheaper on only to spend the same amount later for the better version. I find long term higher prced investments in equipment save you more money in the end. -S Feb 27 07 11:31 am Link I have the 308 b which has worked flawlessly for almost 12 years. It uses a double A battery and I could not be more happy with it. It is small and easy to carry and unlike other small meters it reads out in 1/10 stops. The new model has several improvements in it. (like the dome locks in place) I have the more expensive Minolta IIII and leave it at home because of its size. Both read the same. It is a simple meter and easy to use and understand. The other features that the more complex meters have are mostly cool but not of real use. Feb 27 07 11:48 am Link Gentlemen, I thank you all for the time you have invested in this thread. Very helpful. Feb 27 07 12:22 pm Link By the way the only Sekonic meter I own is a Type L-VI, if you can guess which one that is. (it's tiny though). Feb 27 07 12:23 pm Link If you spend a little more for the L-358, you will have the option to add a spot meter function later. You can also add an internal card to trigger Pocket Wizard receivers so you can set & fire your studio lights without dragging around a sync cord between the flash unit & meter. I own a 358 & love it. Feb 27 07 12:25 pm Link Karl Blessing wrote: Sorry, I don't know the line-up. I'm learning though. Mar 31 07 09:12 am Link Had the 308, and 328...both good meters. Now you 'll have to pry my 508 out of my cold dead hands... Mar 31 07 04:43 pm Link i had a sekonic that was eternal problems...eventually took it back....dont remember the model number...have had minolta auto IIIF and auto V the V is really quite nice and no problems with it at all....is a bit pricey in the states, but if you shop online, you can find the overseas ones for a little under $200 in the mid east Mar 31 07 06:30 pm Link Ryan Crocker wrote: I have the 508 too Love it Mar 31 07 06:33 pm Link Trevor Snyder wrote: You can buy the Sekonik SRTYUINHH-X turbo, automatic transmision and two bedrooms, but until then, I recommend you this one, That's the one I use...and it's awesome.
