We have the 600 and 300 compact profotos in the studio, they work great. Haven't had any problems, great recycle time, but they are the older ones with out the buit in PW's.

I have a couple 600ws units , to suppliment my acute pack/heads.
I've had a couple issues with one acting erratically as a slave. No idea where the sensor is located, and unit location/orientation might have been the issue, as primary flash was set near minimum. Now I just use a microsynch reciever on both units to alleviate any chance of slave misfiring.
They're rather large, yet quite powerful AND the lamps cost 1/2 what Acute flashlamps cost!
So I'm quite happy with 'em for studio use.
I'd likely prefer something a bit more campact for a dedicated location kit, but have no regret with the kit purchase.  But I rarely use location studiuo setups, so I can't complain.

I am surprise you mentioned that it is quite large.  The reason for me to look at them is for smaller size.  I am currently using Hensel studio lights but want something smaller yet powerful.

Moving up huh?  I might just add the profoto to my studio lights.

I have been using 2 of them and an acute 1200 pack for over two years now. Zero problems and very fast recycle times. They can run for hours without overheating.

That's the way to go I bought a d4 4800ws 2 years ago and the thing just doesn't fail me it's perfect so I sold all other brands of light and decided that I would use nothing else but profoto

Someone mentioned that you could drop the profoto flash head (about 4 feet - with protective cover of course) and the head still working. I am curious if profoto really is that durable.

I have the Acute pack system and a 600 Compact. I see the PW units are built into the new Compacts and may buy one when I add to my kit.

Not sure if that's a good thing to do..

The R models seem unecessary if the slaves are working. And if you are paying that much for a monobloc they should be. Is the R model antenna able to be stored in a safe position or does it stick out?

Those who use the 1200 model, how do you power them? Generator? Battery and sine wave inverter?

Just how bulky are they? When you are traveling do you carry them as cabin luggage or check them? 3 of these things are worth more than a high end DSLR, so how could you not carry them onboard.
