Has anyone tried the new Zeus power packs and/or ringlight? I'm considering higher power -  and am interested in hearing about the performance of the Zeus systems. Particularly with regards to recycle time, control/variability, color consistency, etc.

Thanx,
Wm

P.S. I KNOW that many jumped on the ABR bandwagon, and love their Bees, but I'm not interested in people trying to steer me towards Bees. Just looking for performance info on their more powerful cousin.

Unless you have a time machine, can't read a calendar, or know some beta testers, I beleive the launch date is July 16, 2007.

That would be next week.

LOL

C'mon now Mark - you're better than that! According to their website, Shipments of these items anticipated to begin on Tuesday, June 26. And as much as MM shooters praise Paul's stuff, do you think there is NO one here who's helped test???

Damn, a few of my Canonite and Nikonian colleagues get to test prototype Canon and Nikon gear - there's gotta be "Buffers" out there too! ;-D

I think you're confusing the Zeuss system with the Vagabond 2, which is set to begin shipping mid-July.

I personally think it's odd that a company that has made itself through the marketing of its monolights is moving into the pack and head market.

That sounds like a valid move to me. Remember, Nikon and Canon used to be just film cameras too. Add digital, P&S, scanners, printers, etc -- diversifying your product offerings is not a bad idea at all. Business is about growth! :-)

If they were to come up with a Zeus pack which had a battery that enabled it to be used for location shooting instead of having to keep it tethered to the vagabond or a wall outlet the whole time, I might consider one for a cheap, toss in the bag travel system. Something along the lines of Profoto's Acute or 7b line.

maybe they will do this in the future...

True, so I'll clarify:

Hmmm... I don't recall their marketing focusing on monolights over packs - but maybe I missed that. I've always remembered their focus being on more "effective ws" for a lower price.....? IMHO, monolights vs packs are just different tools. Sometimes one is better than another. I choose based on whether I can hide cables or have to spread lights out more (or whether I need more power).

Customer demand most likely.

A lot of shooters begin with AB or WL and find themselves wanting to upgrade their equipment to pack and head for more power and end up switching to another brand. I imagine that Buff wants to capture this market instead of losing his customers who want more power.

Well said!  :-)

I have Travelite monolights, but need more power, so have been shopping for an Elite system, Quad X, etc - not willing to spend Profoto bucks. I'm willing to consider the Zeus if it's a solid system.

When I bought my system, prominant phrases were "The whole light is on one stand!  Everything you need in one box!  Only one cord to plug in!"

Excellent point that I hadn't thought of.  But Buff would still have the Power Seekers handled in the White Lightning brand...

Not really. The most powerful strobe in the WL lineup, the 3200, is still only putting out 1320 true Ws.

The Zeus 2500 is providing 2500 true Ws.

If you are using the Zeus bi-tube heads which will be released soon you can hook them up to two 2500 packs to produce 5,000 true Ws.

Wow more power what are you guys shooting? Shooting cars with film at ISO 50 ? I have the Ultra 1800 white lighting ( old school bought in '94)  and I have to reduce the power to get it at F11 @ ISO 100.
